Generic Magical Items


These are the items magic-users and alchymists would be really creating: minor, useful, and easy to sell.

But really:

Why slave away for twenty years creating a magic sword you and yours can’t use - and nobody can really re-emburse you for your time spent (and lack of lifespan after), when you can do a few days work and sell the results for big bucks?

This is a list of the more interesting common magical items, and enchantments the workers of magic are likely to know. You don’t save the world every day, you also have to survive.

This is one of the Codices that the site really needs. It also serves as a reminder to people that every magic item does not have to be epic and totally unique. There are some processes which are going to be produced (or be producable) by everyone.

I usually don't give out 5 scores for submissions. But this one struck a cord with me. I too feel the need for mundane items. I even started a thread in the old forums about it but was derailed by disbelievers... Muhahah

Anyway, I agree 110% with this idea manfred. Great idea.

Also, I had the idea that it wasn't always the most powerful that created magic items. They had ot learn somewhere. But what was the content of their first trys? I had thought in my world that apprentices would be required to create mundane items to learn and prove their worth. Another reason why items could be mundane, the unskilled made them and the powerful items were from the ones who learned quick.

In nature, for instance, a rhino has flies and ticks etc, that live on the hide and live off the blood. Rhino will visit and lie in ponds where turtles will clean the underwater portion of the ticks and a species of bird will clean the the top of ticks and other parasites. What if where the characters camp there were a species of animals that lived off wounds of the creatures. PCs camp. Anybody with wounds on there body are soon covered with small rodent - insect - shadows - whatever. Would immediately see it as a threat I would imagine. But perhaps one of the wounded didn't wake up when it happened, and when they did finally wake they were completely healed. Perhaps somebody was warned of something attacking them but they were able to notice that the wound was actually getting smaller instead of larger. Or maybe they successfully beat the creatures off them and don't notice an improvement, marking this place never to rest at ever again....later learn that villagers send their wounded there but they keep it a guarded secret because they don't want all the attention or traffic and what comes with such a special gift. Could turn into something more too if characters decide to start blabbing about it.
