Do ye reckon Mathom rules alone? Nothing would ever get done. No, my brothers and sisters, there are others. Others.

*sigh*

This scroll was born in chat with manfred and AG.

Mathom should have some friends!

I will do two or three gods. I will not do them now. If you know Mathom, then you know why. Out of repect for HIM, I shall dilly-dally instead.

Eventually coming your way will be...Our Lady of Paranoia, Nehu, God of Confidence, and maybe the Methods of Methodemus. Be on the lookout for others...manfred's God of Pessimism...and other, more awful horrors! Maybe even the Redundant Lord of Redundancy!

I think you get the idea here. Do not tread lightly! Mathom, the God of Delays is much loved around here. His fellow Placeholders should be too!

Just read "Mathom" and you will understand. I just read Mathom, and well—

Why look! here comes Zufa and Deletos, Lords of the Lost and Unfound, with a swarm of Gremils in tow.

World History - Option A)

The world has been created, as many have been, by the Ultimate And Perfect Being, as the creator was called only. HE has withdrawn his attention to other matters, likely creating new worlds, and other, lesser beings would arrive and take over the reponsibility of this world, becoming its Gods.

But sadly, this didn't happen. Nobody knows what went wrong, or how it could be, but the gods simply didn't arrive. The plants and animals have prospered, and the humanoid creatures grew in numbers as in thought.

But there was a vacuum in power, for no world is complete without its gods. As ages passed, lesser spirits have, some less willingly, some more, taken on the mantle of this great responsibility.

World History - Option B)

But here, all was as it should. Deities of great power and wisdom... well power at least. And then something occured... was it a war, a conflict, or was it politics of a kind mortals cannot understand? Or were they simply fed up with this, and left on their own?

Anyway, the whole pantheon has left one day, and these are the gods that have stepped into their place.

World History - Option C)

When Mathom, the God of Delays,

was cursed by the gods and deposed from his throne, he demanded a fair

trial. Now, several millenia later, the High Court has finally gotten

around to it. By ancient custom all deities must attend a full trial,

so many of them fashioned short-term replacements for themselves to handle their duties while away.

Several centuries later, Mathom's trial is still going, and the Placeholder Gods have grown into their roles. While they started off as little more than automated answering machines or help-desk services, their intelligences and powers have expanded. Some of them have begun to be worshipped in their own right.

See Slys, Die of the Damned for an example.

What will happen if to the Placeholder Gods when Mathom's Trial ends?
