Cauldron of Hatred
An Elven artifact with no other purpose but to spread hatred and mayhem.
Years ago, the Elven lord Ianthal Serevemon was an up and coming leader in the Elven community of Lereshala. Through magic and cunning, the Elves of Lereshala struck well and destroyed their Orkish enemies, the Great Foot tribe. But they had forgotten one enclave of Great Foot Orks: The priests. On the eve of the massacre the next year, the Great Foot dark priests swarmed down from the mountains, destroying Lereshala and killing many of it's people. Ianthal walked among the debris of his former people and wept and wept. Perhaps his mind snapped underneath the grief, perhaps he was possessed, but whatever it was, Ianthal Serevemon became hardened and cold, a heart of darkness among the recovering stars of goodness. Under his leadership, Lereshala became a military dictatorship under Ianthal, it's borders closed, it's people set into slavery toiling to create tools of war. Elemental creatures of steam and flame became his greatest weapons, until one day he created the gate. Siphoning off elemental power of flame and steam from the gate and capturing his elemental creatures, he combined it all into a black iron cauldron. After this dark ceremony, he gathered his fanatical Elven troops and began to sail across the narrow channel to the savage land where the Orks that he so hated reigned. But he underestimated his ability to control the Cauldron's power and the ship sunk under a great blade of fire that flew from the heavens. Somewhere underneath the sea's waters, a Sahaugin king possesses the Cauldron of Hatred, and it is only a matter of time before he decides to use it.
Magical Properties:
The Cauldron of Hatred gives the carrier the ability to summon an army of steam or fire elementals to do his bidding. It can be opened to release a storm of fire and scalding steam to burn enemies' flesh off. Finally, if the user performs a certain ritual, he can call an apocalypse of dark elemental heat to boil the oceans and burn the lands. Of course, there is a curse. If the user's force of will is not significant enough to win the incredibly difficult battle of wills with the Cauldron, it will consume them with it's elemental fury.

It is just like the One Ring. A little to powerfull and much to destructive. But I like that.
At first I did not like it, but then I needed something 'One Ringy', and it fit perfictly, so now I love it.
Yeah...Y'know, the more I look at it, the less I like it.

About the item:
It is just like with nuclear weapons - if it is there, some fool might just use it, and if its ONLY danger is that it might kill the user inside an inferno it released, taking the whole surroundings with him, and it has no limits on activation (one does not need that much to set off a working nuclear warhead) it WILL be used too often - I suppose the cauldron is not consumed by its own rage, right? A reusable nuclear weapon? Imagine what certain folks, say, in Palestina, Iraq, Ireland or Basque would give for this...their very souls, and their grandma as a bonus.

This is soooo different from the CP subs that we have seen more recently. I imagine that if you were to write a similar item today, it would only vaguely resemble this.
This is a big cauldron of woop ass. Some of these items from the ancient days of Strolens are a window back into our early days of gaming.
Definitely a stand in for a nuke as EM suggests, to be treated accordingly.
