Elainuk: Parna's Dark Elf Assassin

By:

The dark elf femme fatale Elainuk was the firstborn son of Robert and Lulu Bobblecork. She was born a healthy bouncy baby boy in the shire of Pedstand, which was part of the Cordially Aligned Tetrarchy of Halfling States.

This obsidian beauty has achieved the peak of infamy among the handful of ruthless merchants, fallen priests and malcontent nobles that make up Parna’s Shadow Court. Elainuk’s kills are so masterfully subtle that even those that paid for the execution question whether or not the death was result of murder or an accident. The Game Warden of the lower Hearnt took an arrow in the back of the head from his brother’s bow, and Elainuk received 30 pieces of silver and a stack of poached furs. The miller of DeadOgre Ferry was sweeping the grind stone of his windmill in plain sight of two priests when he knocked the locking pin free, and was crushed by a rolling mill stone. Elainuk received 50 silver pieces, and a cask of brandy. There has never even been a rumor of dark elf being present during these deaths. She has only been seen in the most wretched corners of Parna, and only then when accepting payment or seducing one of her many masculine conquests.

Little Bobby Bobblecork was sent to gather savory shelf mushrooms along the rocky banks of the Tillatook creek when a Drow enchantress snatched him. The enchantress carried him into the underdark where she taught him how to weave magic in the minds of others, and spin manna into false images. This was not because she wished to better Bobby, but because she was a busy sorceress and needed a servant who understood the arcane. When he was his not carrying out the whims of his mistress, he would be passed to her brothers for their perverse amusements. Then Bobby was abandoned in the caves. He did not know where the Drow went or why, only that they no longer wanted him.

While Bobby was being tormented beneath the earth the great tragedy of the Nili sea occurred, and a demon of Eminster took up resident among the hobbit hills. The sun refuses to look upon the demon, and Pedstand and all the shires are covered in darkness. Bobby fled from the blackness, and headed east to Parna. There he found many surviving hobbits living shameful desperate lives among the humans as beggars and refugees.

Bobby was now a master of illusion and enchanting. In order hide his hobbit nature, he wrote a spell that made him appear as a beautiful ivory haired dark elf: Elainuk. In order to eat Elainuk sold first herself, and then her skills. She uses her magic to weave elaborate traps for her victims. She will spend days watching her target, and then use her magic to engineer an accident.

Elainuk is efficient, but her targets are often of the trade classes or minor nobility. She prefers to kill simple people. She finds hobbits disgusting.

Love the artistry of this piece.A very cool distinctive feel. The names are for the most part evocative of Tolkien to me, however, I'm starting my new scoring system so you get 4/5

I like the twist on the dark elf assassin stereotype but the transition from illusionary Elainuk to real Bobby was just a tad too abrupt for my taste. Still, the 500 word limit is a real constraint so did not deduct mark for that.

I am always impressed when someone can express so much in so few words. Excellent work on this. This is a character that stands out and would be fun to use for confusing players, which is always a plus :)

The summary did a good job of grabbing me.

Interesting, what Val said basically, I wasn't expecting a transracial transgender dark elf ne hobbit assassin. Nicely executed.

Update: Instead of a picture I added stats. Used http://www.myth-weavers.com/ 3.5 character generator.

axel, You and I are on the same page w/this stat thing HOWEVER I very strongly suggest that you take the stats out of the body of the work and put them in an idea below the sub, I REALLY think that will ruffle the least feathers.

I'm like Sheldon, they both scare and fascinate me LOL, Seriously, I'm not trying to start the Protestant Reformation in the Citadel. While the difference is almost negligible, It takes into respect the wishes of the majority and allows the minority to do what they want. I do not feel that stats should be included in the body of a sub. It will send the wrong message to future Strolenites and we are not looking for a fight here

THE COVEN
When the characters approach a clearing in the forest, they will see 4 ogres who are guarding, and preventing from escape, 4 human males, and 3 human females. The ogres will see the party and leap to attack. The females will scream "OUR SAVIORS!!" and run screaming straight across the currently forming battlefield, in between ogres and party members, to hide behind the rearmost party members. They will be safe there. The males will try to skirt the battle to the north side to join the women.

To the south, giants will be hiding in the thick underbrush until the party has engaged the ogres and then attack the most opportune target EXCEPT the ones that the females are next to.

It should be noted that the female commoners are not female commoners at all, nor are the male commoners actually male commoners. The female commoners are the hags, who have polymorphed themselves as the commoners in their stewpot to escape detection. The males skirting the battle are actually MORE ogres, the hags were in the process of polymorphing ALL the ogres into regular humans for ambush purposes. The REAL commoners are already dead, having found their way into the coven's cauldron for dinner.

The hags (the women) will position themselves near to any spellcasters in the rear first, and then near anyone else in the back of the fight. The ogres (the men) will wait until the hags shift form, and then attack first the rear folks, then shift into the melee.

It is possible that the characters, as they approach the ogres, will notice the giants in the bush, and be able to warn the others of the ambush.

GAME NOTES: If you sell the screaming women correctly, they will not even be suspected until it is too late. Therein lay the problem. This encounter is ESPECIALLY deadly to the rear eschelon of the party. It is entirely possible that the hags will finish off half the party before they even realize they have been duped. Caution is required if the game master wishes to avoid a TPK(total party kill).
