Peter saw it in the shadows. It began like a emerald sparkler. The sparkler begain to move around in a circle. Slowly at first, but with increasing speed. Then gold and silver light began to spin around with the green. Soon the spinning lights cooled. They became metallic, yet still gently glowing in the gloom. Inside the ring, static - like the static on an analog tv - appeared. The first of what he would call Grinches appeared.

Full Item Description
How do The Grinches get here? Wreaths. These are not your normal green wreath hanging from doors and walls. The Wreaths of The Grinches are metal rings ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 meters (5" to 8") in diameter. The Wreaths are made up of wire bundles. The wires are a mix of silver, gold, and a metallic green. (The green metal is known as Yuelium, with such unique properties that it will become a strategic material). The bundles of wire occassionally have odd little geometic shapes the wire. They seem like little ivy leaves and odd shaped blobs of berries.

This all struck The Elfs as a Christmas Wreath. The Humans picked it up and now the name has stuck.

Wreaths just seem to appear. The Grinches’ Masters seem to send them through The Void to this world. They just appear, power up, and open up the gateways. The Elfs quickly developed detecting globes to spot incomming wreaths. The Grinches responded by "planting" wreaths. These Wreaths start as 2-5 CM rings and grow into full size. They are placed and eventually activate. (Such wreath rings have been discovered a few times, usually just before they were activated). These rings and Grinches can be detected by certain toys the Elves develop.

The existance is Wreath Rings is disturbing. It means The Grinches (and their Masters) have been on Earth Realm for a while and have a greater plan. Another disturbing implication is that they have allies that are native to Earth (and a stockpile of Wreath Rings and Yulium items).

Humanity’s and Elfkinds’s experience started with Wreaths started December 24th at sunset in London.

One of the first Elf Assault Teams (or was it an Elf Rescue Team… the two divisions have a rivalry and both claim many firsts) first discovered The Wreath and watched it self destruct (and stopped the reinforcements comming through).  Now part of every Elf Team starts looking for the Wreath to stop the Grinch reinforcements.

Magic/Cursed Properties
The Wreaths open a portal between the Earth Sphere and the Realm of the Grinches’ Masters (aka The Dark Heart’s). This portal seems to be two way. Otherwise, there would be no reason for the Masters to destroy Wreaths when they might be captured by Elfs or Humans.

When self destructing, The Wreath turns white hot and the gold and silver vaperizes. Some bits of Yulium survive and can help to make some awewsome technology and eTec devices. Note, a fire usually results due to the self distruct.

I like this, mostly because when wandering through the Christmas aisle at various stores, I have been struck to write some sort of submission based on Christmas Wreaths. My research found no real cultural, or religious meaning to the wreath and I ended up not writing anything. The use of wreaths as portals is a nice one, and ym hat is off to you for it Mr. Moon.

When the characters approach a clearing in the forest, they will see 4 ogres who are guarding, and preventing from escape, 4 human males, and 3 human females. The ogres will see the party and leap to attack. The females will scream "OUR SAVIORS!!" and run screaming straight across the currently forming battlefield, in between ogres and party members, to hide behind the rearmost party members. They will be safe there. The males will try to skirt the battle to the north side to join the women.

To the south, giants will be hiding in the thick underbrush until the party has engaged the ogres and then attack the most opportune target EXCEPT the ones that the females are next to.

It should be noted that the female commoners are not female commoners at all, nor are the male commoners actually male commoners. The female commoners are the hags, who have polymorphed themselves as the commoners in their stewpot to escape detection. The males skirting the battle are actually MORE ogres, the hags were in the process of polymorphing ALL the ogres into regular humans for ambush purposes. The REAL commoners are already dead, having found their way into the coven's cauldron for dinner.

The hags (the women) will position themselves near to any spellcasters in the rear first, and then near anyone else in the back of the fight. The ogres (the men) will wait until the hags shift form, and then attack first the rear folks, then shift into the melee.

It is possible that the characters, as they approach the ogres, will notice the giants in the bush, and be able to warn the others of the ambush.

GAME NOTES: If you sell the screaming women correctly, they will not even be suspected until it is too late. Therein lay the problem. This encounter is ESPECIALLY deadly to the rear eschelon of the party. It is entirely possible that the hags will finish off half the party before they even realize they have been duped. Caution is required if the game master wishes to avoid a TPK(total party kill).
