A black wooden egg cup, very hard, smelling a little of charred wood. It is resistant to fire (it needs to be: see magical properties) and and it is delicately carved with relief images of fruit and vines and other fertility symbols.
Magical Properties:
An ordinary egg is inserted into the egg cup of summoning. The cup is placed in a lighted hearth and the egg slowly begins to warm up. Incantations are read, and powders thrown onto the fire, and the egg will hatch into the summoned creature.
Addled eggs produce deformed demons or chaotic familiars. This can be troublesome.
Double yolks produce twin familiars, and larger eggs naturally yield larger summonees.

I also like this item. It is functional, realistic, and has a sense of basic style. All in all a very nice item.

Bigger eggs won't fit so nicely into the Egg Cup, they must be carefully balanced (a simple cheap string would spoil the ritual).
So what happens if you finally get that dragon's egg, and in the middle of incantations it falls? Something horrible I guess...

Makes the familiar feel special, too...

But can you still eat an egg from it?

But will take small issue with AG
Some ideas are just so good that they just don't NEED a lot of detail

This is how magic should work.
I agree with both points. Its a gem of an idea, and at the same time a little more would have been great, putting this over the top!
