The Fakastr
Fakastr are large brutal bull-like creatures. They are green and brown mottle in their fur. Their hooves are large and sharp, as are their long pointed horns. They also regenerate. If they were not dangerous enough, they are semi-intelligent.
Full Description
The Fakastr are a race of semi-intelligent (akin to Wolves, Dolphins, and Chimps), massive, brutal bull-like creatures who grow limbs back after they have been hacked off, with a single exception: their horns.
The horns, when severed, remain alive and the Fakastr see it as a great dishonour to lose one. (They will grow back in two to three years) They always attempt to retrieve lost horns, escaping and travelling miles to seek out the owner and punish them. They can sense the presence of their horn and instinctively follow it, sometimes across continents...
The Fakastr are used by the people of Ichyria as entertainment. Fakastr arenas exist. In these fighting rings men contest the beasts and try to render them harmless. Of course the advantage is that any lost limbs grow back and the same Fakast can be used for many fights.
It is seen as a great prize for a Toreador-Warrior to hack off a horn of his Fakast, and Fakastr with no horns left are generally considered no good for the fighting ring.
Magical Properties:
Regeneration.
Roleplaying Notes
They are somewhat even tempered creatures when used as beasts of burden. Treat them well and they will treat you well. (Though a few weeks every late winter when they go into heat, stand back). Even those used in the arenas will only fight people they recognize as warriors, so the handlers are normally fairly safe.

More akin to a sketch than any full MoonHunter quality post. I see the idea and I think there is a glimmer there, but I do not know if it is a glimmer of hope. What I mean: I do not know if I am attracted to the idea of a regenerating beast of burden/oxen replacement.
If they are semi-intelligent why do they tolerate being fought for amusement, why not try to escape? Are they fed well and pampered? Considering their hatred of being de-horned, I imagine they would not like to be kept as arena animals. The post confuses me because some things make the animal seem very aggresive ('brutal' and description of hooves as very sharp makes it sound aggressive to me) but the description seems mild. It doesn't all add up to me, but maybe I'm just reading it wrong.
I read it the same , Zylithan from 2005 :). These seem too well designed and submissive to their role.
I understand the logic of Zylithan and Val comments but personally I'm okay with this seemingly disconnect of a docile beast that could be very dangerous (I think of it as a sort domesticated wolf becoming dog story). However, I also agree with AG that this is a solid but not particularly endearing idea presented here.
