War Cleaver

A cleaver the size of a large shield.

This weapon can be seen in the hands of giants, large orges, while only slightly diminished versions can be witnessed weilded by mentally questionable dwarves.

The war cleaver has it’s roots as most weapons do: As common peasant tools. It is, simply, a big cleaver; although that is a bit of an understatement when one witnesses a three foot long, foot and a half wide slab of sharpened steel whistling through a battle. It’s size makes the weapon unpractical to the untrained soilder, but when a properly trained creature weilds it, they become a force to be reckoned with.

Since it is a large flat sheet, it can be used as a shielding weapon rather than parrying weapon. One on the primary tactics used by trained regulars is to block a blow, then deliver a short counter-blow with the massive weapon. This tactic is counter intuitive of what most soilders expect and catches a fatal many off gaurd. Of course, when the situation is suitable for it, swinging it in wide arcs is devestating.

Most War Cleavers have blades about three feet by two feet, but giants typically weild larger ones, up to one reported at eight feet long and four feet wide, and dwarves often cut captured war cleavers down to a managable size around two feet long and one foot wide. Whatever size, a properly weilded War Cleaver is impressive.

I think I'm definitely gonna have to have one of my players use this at some point... it's too good to pass up

No big huge deal, but still cool.

It is simply a large sword that can still cut bread. Heck, it's not even magical.

But it's funny.

I fail to see the real uniquness in this. I voted on it for it's humor factor of a horde of large cretures weilding huge sheets of metel for weapons. Again, I don;t care for it personally but to have a few squads of these things rush at the players would make them pause.

It is too Final Fantasy for me.

Amen to that. This could be a great idea, if it had a little more humor. Otherwise, it's an interesting take on that obnoxious 7-foot-sword trend that some video games seem to be obsessed with. It's just like that, except it's relatively pleasant and it's entertaining.

Impressive and also useful for cutting food in peacetime.

Simple and brutal, a fun variation on the more traditional ax so many Dwarven characters equip themselves with.

A Regiment of soldiers trained in these would make for an interesting subdivision of a otherwise famous mercenary company as well.  "Calrissa's Cleavers" or the like.

An OK sub, but nothing special. Doubt that I'll use it in my campaign.

Battle axes, war hammers, military picks, war cleavers, military forks.....I am still waiting on skirmish shovels, siege pans, and attack spoons.

But still there is nothing wrong with this.

When The Wind Blows

       By: Murometz

One day a a wind begins to blow out of the West. The next day it gets stronger. And stronger still the next few days. Eventually (and fortunately), the speed of the wind tops out at a steady fifty miles an hour, but continues to blow. Soon an entire kingdom is wondering why it's not abating. The weather mages deem it unnatural but can't seem to banish or control it. The priests of various faiths claim it's divine. The End-Of-Days crowd is having a field day with their predictions of doom. No one knows why the gale persists. When inquiring with neighboring kingdoms, it seems they too suffer from a persistent western mistral. Eventually the populace begins to adapt to living with a twenty four hour a day wind. Always from the West, and perpetual. What could be causing this? A raging Elemental king? a curse from the gods? an unearthed artifact? Or has Nature itself gone haywire?
