Family Art Sword

By:

“When I strike at you, I am not alone. I have the courage and skill of my entire family. You do not have a chance!”

Full Item Description
The weapon, guard, and pommel guard, are fairly standard in nature for the region. (In most cases it weighs 3 lbs (1.5 kgs) and is 35” long (30” blade, 75 cms) and has mildly decorate guards with appropriate beasts for the region).

The weapon has the family name engraved on the blade in a beautiful calligraphy. The family name is inscribed four places on the blade (right and left side on both sides of the blade). If there is a family motto, it is inscribed along the center of the blade on both sides. The engravings are often inlayed with brass, but gold, silver, pewter, and other metals can be used.

History
In martial households, this weapon is used to teach family sword techniques, those special tricks and bits that have been passed down from successful warrior ancestors to the current generation. The Head of the household wears the sword as a “daily sword” for around house and town/ country, when they are not expecting trouble. They use more “serious weapons” when they are expecting to actually use a weapon.

When not in use or with non martial households, it is hung in the family room to protect the family from Evil. Those of the family within the “reflection” of the blade are safe from spiritual evil and supposedly the Evil that men do.

Magic/Cursed Properties
None, but might give pluses to “speaking with the ancestors”

A great idea which could easily be expanded with some nice details. Perhaps an example?
Some "show, don't tell details"?

What details would you like me to add?

What details would you add? Do you want me to write up a piece of fiction for it, showing over the hearth of a fire at one random home? What about the several hundred thousand other homes?

This is not an individual piece. This is a cultural piece, where there are hundreds of thousands of these swords.

This intro here, really sent my imagination spinning and left me craving more.

"When I strike at you, I am not alone. I have the courage and skill of my entire family. You do not have a chance!"

So my point was that I think the post could easily handle a few more lines in the intro mood.
But it is a great idea anyway so if my comments is annoying you we can leave it with that.

Sincerely, Mike.

Cursed Summoner

       By: Murometz

A PC Conjurer or summoner, basically any mage whose sole purpose in life is summoning creatures to aid in battles and various situations, is cursed with a hex, and needs to find a way to undo the curse...before he goes mad, or his fellow PCs throw him out of the party, or worse.

Everything he/she summons, never goes away. So you'll have to figure out what the heck to do with that dire bear or fire elemental once it's done fighting the orcs for you. Eventually a caravan of bizarre creatures either annoyingly ends up following the summoner around, or they go off to cause mayhem elsewhere. Bad news for the poor spell-caster regardless.
