The Luminary
You see a glowing figure, four feel tall, it looks like it has been waiting for you. Suddenly, it flies right through you, and it looks like its coming around for another pass...
Full Description
The Luminary are a form of lonely light-emitting ghosts. They have a vaguely humanoid shape and are about four feet tall. They have no faces and dont seem to be able to see anything other than intelligent life, when first meeting a person they usually fly at them, through them, then circle around and do this a few times. It is ofen mistaken as an attack, but they mean no harm. They simply want a taste of life again
These beings are created when a particularly noble creature or beast suffers a tragic death. Its spirit shatters and several of these Luminaries could be born. They exist to remind us that even that even animals can imapact the world in a big way. Most Luminaries are born from Unicorns or similar beings of magic and goodness. But it is not unknown for a simple rabbit to shatter like this.
The Luminary do not speak, but they often will lead adventurers to the spot of their previous form's death or its killer.
Additional Information
The Luminary can detect the moral alignment of people they pass through, they often pass through those of questionable goodness a few times searching their souls for scraps of good they may have missed on the first pass.
Luminaries do not hurt anything, but when attacked they have the ability to render creatures and humanoids unconsious for long enough for The Luminary to flee. Most animals and beasts of limited intelligence will follow and protect these spirits, knowing that they are pure good.
It would be expectionally rare for a Luminary to enter a town or city because they much prefer the woods and hills that they once belonged to.
Plot:
- The PCs encounter several of these Luminaries in a forest, if followed they lead to a mass grave of some good beast. It's up to the PCs to find out who/what, and why

A nice bit of scenery.
One nitpick: if a luminary's source is the soul of a woodland beast, like a unicorn or a rabbit, why is it vaguely humanoid in shape?
Why humanoid if it came from a beast? 4/5
Darn, I don't really know. One of those mysteries of life. I suppose it could be because Souls are the prime ingredient in life, and the prime lifeform is humanoids. So it would really mean that Humans have a vaguely soul-like shape. And Beasts are just an mutations of the human soul.
Well, the problem is that if they are humanoid, they do not remind the viewer of animals.
Why not change the description so that they are lumnious indistinct quadrapeds? Then they look like animals but not so specific.
Other then that I like it. You did miss a period at the end of the 1ts paragraph after 'again'.
I think Val hit it on the head, go back and edit out the humanoid shape part. If you want a uniform shape for your noble animal ghosts, I would suggest the floating ball of light ala the Will'o'the Wisps.
Shows some promise, but needs more sauce.
I like to think of them as sort of wil-o-wisp looking, which makes them adorable. They could make for a bittersweet encounter in the forest.
Like others before me, I like the concept but have difficulty with the fact that spirits of nobles animals shatter into a humanoid shape.
I guess this might be evidence (in game) of human's being in the prime form or form of god. If something were to have a soul, the part of them that was connected to god, then that soul would be humanoid. I pretty sure there was some part of my religious education that suggested this, demons look animalistic while the soul and angels appear as human.
Anyway it is nice idea, would have been better folded into some other sub than a sub on its own.
