Caldex

A Fancy name for what is a glorified calculator. The Caldex differs from the traditional calculator in that it can process arcane mathematics that support arcanotech, taking into account the six phase base (modern mathematics only have 2 phases of numbers, +/-). These devices are typically only found in arcanotech kits, scientific labs, and robotics facilities. The device is pocket sized, and can mesh with other smart tech.

Gatecrasher

A Gatecrasher is a security tool that is used to break through smart locks on doors. These are commonly owned by law enforcement agencies and security companies who use them to test security, or in responding to emergencies where doors might be locked. This is a useful in arcologies and hostile environment areas where discharging a firearm or using a blasting charge on a door is not a safe option. They are small and tube shaped, roughly the size of a candy bar. They command a high price on the black market, and have a number of different levels. A 'Skeleton Key' that will gatecrash any door is exceedingly rare, while the most commonly available models are low security and can only gatecrash basic commercial and residential systems.

Psi-Scanner

A handheld device with an extended antenna used to determine if individuals possess psychic ability. The device can only detect active telepathic, empathic, or mind controlling abilities when they are active, or have recently been used. The device is considered unreliable as it is easily spoofed by non-active psychics. It also only detects parapsychic abilities based around brain interactions, not elemental, physical, or environmental arts. Also, it is only a monitor, and a quick witted parapsychic mind controller can usually spoof the user of a Psi-scanner to read the results as clear. The work around on this is for current generation psi-scanners to set off and audio and visual alarm when it detects such activities.

Psi-Screamer

Nothing more than a psychic noise generator, a Psi-screamer disrupts the use of mental parapsychic abilities in it's vicinity. It also disrupts CogNet communications, interferes with machine cortices, and causes headaches, nightmares, and nervous tics in people who are exposed to one for too long. Psi-screamers are rare, and the few that are held are used for protecting clandestine meetings, dealing with known parapsychic controllers, are for enhanced interrogation techniques.
The screamer is a box roughly the size of a loaf of bread.

Flash Cube

A high resolution recorder, flash cubes are the cosmic equivalent of a camera. They are commonly used by the media, and rather than still pictures, they capture gifs. They can also function as video cameras, capturing high enough resolution data to be converted over into CogNet SimSense. Being tough, many users will simply activate the unit with a toss, and it will capture the details of a room for posterity. Law enforcement and forensics use the flash cube in the same fashion, but in a more deliberate manner. The military will also use explosive versions of flash cubes. The 'grenade' is tossed, it captures tactical data, relays it to the thrower's comm, and then explode.

MUSE variants

MUSE Badge - a micro sized MUSE interface, can be worn as an adornment on clothing, a popular trend among teens. Can generate personal music envelope, and perform media caching while out in public. A common implement for people who need to use a MUSE device but also need to stay hands free, such as medical personal, police and law enforcement, and other professionals who work with their hands.

Variations on the Badge include a wrist watch version, and a pocketwatch version, these being fashion choices.

MUSE Tablet - a much larger than normal device with greater interface potential. It can do anything a normal muse can, but can also support a SQUIDband and other immersive cognitive headgear.

Tricorder

The Tricorder is a catchall term given to a large group of electronic devices that all have the same triple function: sensing, recording, and calculating. Thus, a proper tricorder device gathers data, records said data, and then analyses said data.

Class 5 Tricorders are very specific purpose, typically disposable, and readily available. These are one shot tools, such as disposable air and water sampling systems, and fit easily in the palm of the hand. A variation of this is the household SmartCorder, a group of devices that detect carbon dioxide, radon, radiation, and other potential hazards. Such gadgets are constantly sensing, recording, and going over their data, usually sending it to a server hub for greater analysis.

Class 4 Tricorders are general use and are easily found in arcologies, spaceships, and other facilities. Their sensors are generally used for diagnostic purposes, and can tether into the local network and communicate with the central intelligence of the facility. These can be general purpose and have a variety of modes, with limited range and functionality (jack of all trades but master of none) or can be very focused in their use, such as scientific or medical models that are purpose built for their tasks.

Class 3 Tricorders are expensive and belong to professionals who are trained in their use. Their function is similar to Class 4 models, but have enhanced sensor range and depth, and greater processing power. These devices can typically tether themselves to MUSE systems and local system adminstrations at the same time, giving the units exceptional interface ability and processing power.

The tricorder used in Star Trek would fall in this area, but would lack interconnectivity, if it were authentic to the source material. It is also worth noting that Roddenberry had a footnote in the Trek tech stuff, if a company made a trek gadget that actually worked, they were free to use the name.

Class 2 Tricorders are specialized and very specific in use. These units are deployed in the medical field, robotics, machine and AI diagnostics, and arcanotech studies. Class 2 tricorders are issued to exploration ships, and groups who are involved in said explorations and surveying.

Class 1 Tricorders are the handtools for arcanotechnicians who work with dimensional fatigue events on a daily basis.

Medical Probe

An attachment for a medical tricorder, the probe is an enhanced sensor cluster and CogNet link that allows a medical agent to connect their tricorder to a patient's gesund auf, allowing them real time biometric telemetry. The probe can also performed more intensive scanning and data collection compared to the standard suite of sensors on a medical tricorder.

Scouter

The Scouter is an optical enhancement system that relays computer enhanced data through the optic nerve to the brain of the user. This system links into area data networks and peripheral devices and allows optical data from concealed spaces to be transmitted through it. It also can link to enhanced imaging systems to create a graphical overlay in the optical lobe of the brain. All this is very complicated data handling, but the end effect is that the wearer functionally has X-ray vision, cartoon style, allowing them to perceive through walls, look through clothing, even peer inside a body if they have an actual x-ray backscatter system. Scouters are restricted technology, and are only legally ownable by high level security and law enforcement agents, and then, only on an individual basis. The scouter fits on the side of the head and folds down over the left eye. The lens provides basic HUD information, while a semi-SQUIDband in the headpiece relays data through the optic nerve.
