Gnomeish Multifunction Bow
A ShortBow created by a community of Gnomes who liked to simplify things. It has three strings. Each string has a very different effect.
A small community of Gnomes who love to make daily life easier have started to produce this ShortBow. When viewed normally it seems to be a well crafted ShortBow made of a reddish wood. When much closer look is taken you can notice that the bow has three strings, side by side. You can fire the bow using one, two, or three strings with no penalty... except for the magical effects.
If someone who does not know the bow has three strings tries to fire an arrow
Roll a 100 sided die or a Percential die:
results-
1 - 2 Only first string is pulled.
3 - 4 Only second string is pulled.
5 - 8 Only third string is pulled.
9 - 13 First and second strings are pulled.
14 - 18 Second and third string are pulled.
19 - 100 All three strings are pulled.
Magical Properties:
Magic for each string or strings:
String one- The arrow flies normally until it strikes something. Then the end of a rope appears at the feet of the bows user. the other end of the rope is stuck where the arrow hit (very well).
String two- The arrow turns into a ball of light (Lights a 20ft radius) and heads north for a few days.
String three- The arrow flies at the ground 10ft in front of the bow user and creates a hole (5 cubic ft).
Strings one and two- The arrow turns into five arrows that all attack different targets using the same attack bonus.
Strings two and three- The arrow becomes invisible when pulled back. Prevents any attempt to dodge using sight.
All strings- The arrow fires as it normally would.
p.s. - the bow may have other different abilities as well but these are the typical ones.

Did i spell Gnomeish right? or is it Gnomish?
Spell it however you like, each gaming world can be different. The idea gets across fine.
This pulling of different sets of strings makes me have flashbacks to my binary. The only combination I see missing is strings one and three ... any thoughts on that? Maybe the arrow ignores or passes through non-magical armor?
A good item, it makes me want to over do it by adding a Balista (seige weapon crossbow)
I get the general idea, but I think it is going to change a little, before handing this to my dear roque of the party.

ehhr I think the range should be different depending on how many strings you pull.... hmmm on the other hand it is magical so....
I like the idea of a rope appearing: this could be a curse or a benefit. Imagine firing at the Tarrasque or a Balrog and suddenly finding yourself holding its lead...
Well Agar, i purposely left out strings 1 and 3 because i didnt think it would be possible to pull only 2 strings with string 2 in the middle. If you think it would be possible feel free to add an effect. And i actually thought of making one of the strings cause the arrow to become the size of a ballista arrow, then again i also almost made it so when you use all 3 strings the arrow explodes as soon as it leaves the bow...

Ahhh, you had envisioned the strings being pulled by hand or some kind of hook device, I see. I was thinking of things like a cluster of 3 hooks, one for each string, but I could see how that could lead to problems releasing said strings.
