Amber Rose
An Amber Rose is a very unique flower that only grows every five years. It is amber is color and seems to radiate with a sheen of energy. It’s properties are sought after by anyone who knows of the rare flower.
The cold touch of winter edges away as spring lets loose his warming breath and ushers in the months of growth and life.
History
During the time of spring bloom, the God Aduivo touches the land with his loving touch to protect it form the harshness of the world and the seeping touch of his rival Gods Sethalis and Sceleris.
Folklore
It is said that the God Aduivo approached a sick woman in the forest a century or so ago. He approached her weeping, laying form and questioned her illness. She replied that she crys not for her but for her brother, who fell ill. The clerics tried vainly to cure him but the illness was beyond what the gods would answer. Feeling grief, he plucked a rose and told her to crush it and give it to her brother. She did and within a day he was better, his illness gone.
The woman began telling her tale of how the stranger had given her an amber rose and her brother was cured. Other tales have sprung up throughout the years of amber roses being gifts from a stranger that cures the sick of near death illnesses. It is a common tale to young children but a tale that has truth.
In his sorrow for the young woman Aduivo travels the land every spring growing the fabled Amber Rose in the hopes that more sorrow can be cured with his touch.
Knowledge
It can not be harvested for growth, they grow randomly in rose beds across the lands. It is amber is color and seems to radiate with a sheen of energy. No reason is known as to why these roses bloom in this particular color or with their particular abilities, they are however sought after by everyone that know of their existence as well as the method on how to distill them. When an Amber Rose blooms, it will only bloom one flower per rose bush, however, only ten to twenty such roses will bloom in the entire world. These blooming flowers are random and will never bloom in the same rose bush twice in a row. The rarity of these roses and their potency in their abilities have been sought after by the greediest of men and women alike.
If distilled correctly the Amber Rose has a number of potent abilities that can be bestowed on the drinker of the potion. It can be distilled many different ways, but it must be harvested, distilled, and consumed within a certain period of time or the effects will fade. In fact, if the time period has lapsed the effects may not only fade but may in fact reverse which can be devastating.
Once an Amber Rose is found it must be harvested within three days of its first bloom. Once harvested it must be properly prepared and distilled within seven days after it was harvested. Once distilled it will have a potency, or shelf life, of fifteen days. After this time has elapsed it is nearly positive that the effects will be reversed if not harmful.
Magical Properties:
If distilled correctly it has a number of benefits, only one benefit will be given to anyone who consumes the distilled potion.
It will heal all minor injuries, repair cracked bone, heal torn or bruised muscles and tendons.
It will increase the drinkers physical abilities by a small margin. (In game terms by adding a single point, percentage, or how the game system runs attributes, stats, etc.)
It will repair a single organ that is damaged or destroyed. Will not work if the recipient is dead.
It will cure the drinker of one debilitating illness, but not remove any curses placed on them by a priest or deific being.

Please tell me more about this propreties, how to destilate it, but a very nice flower and rare.
I like flower and fauna and use them extensively in my setting. This is an alright flower, it's powers might be a bit overdone but then again it is so rare that it doesn't matter overly much, at least not when taking into consideration it's a one use item.
Nice mythic flower that will make the PCs drool. 4/5 (borderline 3/5)
(I'd strip it of the anti-ageing power though)
Thanks... guys. I was pretty much just fleshing it out in here. And I had originally figured that if I made it rare, it wouldn't matter about the ageless effect. But I may alter it a tad.
Thanks again.
Exodus, that is the thing about the process, only a very limited number of people know how to distill it properly and therefore keep the secret close. But I will edit more on it as I change a few things.
Just one question- if we took this rose and put it into a fantasy novel, how would it's powers transfer over out of non-game stats (besides the non-aging)? Would a character suddenly feel stronger, or more skilled at something? Would they gradually find the benefit?
3.5/5.
In a novel type setting. The character would feel stronger, noticed they are able to think faster and are able to solve problems quicker. (Incase of their intelligence increasing) If the benefit repairs the body, then they would feel a stab or a pinch and feel something going on inside their body until the organ is repaired. In this case, it could be seen as this amazing substance that heals the sick of any illness, as long as they are not dead of course.
This wouldn't be entirely be a gradual benefit. It would take a few minutes for the effects to fully take hold, but not more than ten minutes or so.
Per Ancient Gamers requests this will go under the knife and be edited for munchinism. Edit to be placed up soon. Stay tuned or drop an idea into the hat. Thanks.
I like it. Two paws up.
You could keep all the powers and add more... for myths and legends. The actual efects should be limited of course. :)
With an unknown reason, aren't there guesses or fairy-tales? What if the goddess ____ (of nature, healing, etc) touches the world each spring, and where she does, an Amber Rose will grow. Hence, only ten roses grow each year in the whole world! That sounds more like rarity.
Updated: Updated history and folklore of the rose per manfred.
See, much better! :)
Updated: Edited the properties of the item per manfred's request.
I like the background a lot... abilties are fine. I might use a variant of this where the powers of the flower are better the longer you let it grow (within reason...) So if one is found, of course people will try to steal it from the lucky person.. it could be a curse then... people might pluck it early... maybe the players hear about it and know of the legend, but the locals only think it is cool (like Elvis in a potato). The players rush to get it before a bad guy. Or, maybe the players could be hired to guard one while it grows in return for a small fraction of it's full-grown essense. These ideas don't work for it as posted, but are inspired by the post.
Those are all great ideas Zylithan and I do llike them. Perhaps in a rewrite of the item or if I create another one of it's kind it may have a similar effect. Thanks. You are more than welcome to use it and abuse it as you will for any game you plan to run.
You said that after a certain time, the potion gives negative effects? Perhaps it's just my sadistic players, but they would find more use of it as that. Since you can only use the potion for positive effects once, does the negative effect only happen once? Does the negative effect fade over time as well? Does it get worse?
Just like letting milk sour, so does this elixir. The same goes for the positive effects, those benefit are permanent, as curing of an illness is permanent unless they contract it again.
The ill side affects will also be permanent as well, usually just the reverse of it's intended affect.
Better! I reserve the true 5.0 for original, complete and mind stunning content. 4.5 is close but lacks something. For me this herb is not new, but it is the best execution of such a herb that I have ever seen. That means 4.5 is the best grade you will ever get, but also that this herb is excellent! Well done Mourngrymn.
Now some feedback: You say: 'If taken more than once the effects maybe be reversed or harmful'.
I am sorry but that sounds like an artificial limit imposed by the GM. I suggest you either rationalize this, or remove it.
Oh, and in Folklore, first paragraph, second last sentance, there is a word missing.
This submission alone has has always needed the AG seal of approval from me. It was the first submission I did on the site and since then you have given me loads of information and ideas. I have strived to get it as balanced as possible and it seems it has done just that. Thanks AG.
Updated: Updated per Ancient Gamers request...
Its a great flower, I wouldn't mind having a couple of these myself. Now on a side note, if some evil genious killed all the rose bushes in the world besides a few that he had in his possesion would it garrentee that those bushes sprouted the Amber Roses or not?
I would say no.
First, it would be very diffilcut to destroy all roses in the whole world - even searching for them would take a few lifetimes. And second, this being a gift from a deity, the god in question would likely take measures to prevent his gift to be misused.
But in a way, you are right: once the story gets around, roses will be much more popular, and many gardens will have a bush or few, just in case.
I see that as being the perfect reasoning behind the history of traditional rose gardens. Why are they so popular? Why are there so many? Could it be that long ago it was rummored ot have magical or healing properties? It is very possible and feasible.
Also, as manfred said, being a gift from the Gods even something as mundane as a plant could not be exploited in the manner with which you speak. Thinking of real terms trying to destroy every rose in the world would be a dauntless task that I would think, fail. Unless you flash burned the entire planet but then nothing would be there anyway.
There are always consequenses for rash actions. Being that it is still a random growth, even if there was only one bush, it is still random whether it will grow or not.
I like this - it is a perfect quest item - a potential lottery ticket for any landowner with a garden.
A lot can be done with this, since you could make them the principle source of magical healing in your world.
I've always had a fascination with speculative fauna with fables and legends attached. I certainly liked this sub.
This was my very first submission to the site, back when it was forum only and held a dear place to me then. Sadly I had forgotten about it until it just popped up in my email. Thank you for enjoying it Moonlake, I'll need to review it some to see if it needs another edit.
Wow, that was before definitely before I joined. I'm quite fond of my first one as well although it came about from a mistake. Glad that the email notifications brought you back to the Citadel.
I always lurk...
First ones are always special. Congrats, well done. Gave rise to good commentary too.
