30 Criminals

By:

The are 30 thieves, killers and other criminals that ought to be behind bars.

1. THE MASTER THIEF
He is the leader of thieves. He does not have overall control of the thieves’ gang/guild (divided as thieves always are) but he is feared and respected by all the other criminals in the city. As is to be expected he has many enemies as well.

2. THE ASSASSIN
This thief specialises in hired killings. The people he kills are often rich and powerful, as The Assassin is too expensive for the poor.

3. THE BACKSTABBER
This guy is deceitful even for a thief. He makes the Master Thief look like a Knight and nobody trusts him. He is purely venal and money is the only thing he holds in any esteem.

4. THE KNIFER
This man is a specialist in knife fighting and is invaluable in street fights.

5. THE KNIFE FENCER
This guy provides high quality knives and daggers for the more successful thieves to use.

6. THE BURGLAR
He steals indiscriminately from rich or poor not being involved in violent crime by preference. Although he won’t have any qualms about killing anyone who gets in his way.

7. THE HEAVY
This man does work for mainly for nobles or landlords who want peasants evicted or rude merchants trashed.

8. THE TORTURER
This interrogator doesn’t need racks or iron maidens to make people talk. A sharp object, a terrifying smile and some sawdust is all The Torturer needs to find the truth.

9. THE MADMAN
He kills for fun and takes orders from no body. He is like the Torturer except he needs no excuses to cause misery.

10. THE SECOND
The second in command to the Master Thief. He is loyal and takes care of the more brutal and dirty jobs of the Master.

10. THE KID
This kid will no doubt make a fine thief one-day. He possesses lock-picking skills and is almost impossible to catch. He spends most of his time sneaking into important buildings and delivering messages for influential thieves.

11. THE HIRED KILLER
Like the assassin except he is not as skilled and often hired to kill easy and poor targets.

12. THE HONOUR THIEF
This symbolises honour among thieves. He always needs a philosophy or excuse to commit crime but he never breaks his word.

13. THE PROTECTER
This criminal offers protection from other thieves to merchants and shopkeepers. Sometimes he has his own men rob a shop so that they feel they need his protection.

14. THE FIGHTER
This guy is an excellent swordsman and is often hired to lead a group of warriors in a less discrete assassination.

15. THE VASSAL THIEF
This is a loyal, strong and skilled thief that lacks imagination. This man will always serve other thieves because he can do everything other than think.

16. THE REBEL
This thief hates the way the hardworking peasants have to work for every scrap of bread while the rich nobles do nothing. He targets nobles and directs thieves under his command in a rebellion against the aristocracy.

17. THE CROSSBOWMAN
This man is held in high esteem for his mastery of the crossbow. He is often hired as an assassin.

18. THE COLLECTOR
This criminal collects protection money for the Protector.

19. THE FENCE
This man is one of many that sell stolen goods on the black market.

20. THE ENFORCER
The Enforcer either maims or kills men who personally insult the Thief master.

21. THE RIVAL THIEF
The second most powerful thief next to the Master Thief, he plots to kill the Master so that he can reign supreme.

22. THE BODYGUARD
The lead protector of the Master Thief who would rather die than fail in his job.

23. THE INFORMANT
This is a spy among the thieves that has caused several people to be arrested. He is also another person in this list.

24. THE SCOUT
The scout is a young girl that checks out the scene of the crime beforehand to make sure everything is safe and that things are running smoothly. She also is the first to see and city guards coming towards one of the thieves’ hideouts.

25. THE SPY
The spy is an informant in the city guard that passes along information.

26. THE DIPLOMAT
This is a thief that negotiates with the city guard and other lawful organisations. He is protected by law as he is the only trusted link to the thieves.

27. THE MASTERMIND
This genius orchestrates huge plots and schemes. He has designed plans for many major robberies including magical objects.

28. THE APPRAISER
This man is an expert on jewellery and magical objects and evaluates them for the fence.

29. THE GOOD THIEF
This guy is a criminal that is like the honour thief except that he does not have any honour. However he has much greater moral standards than the honour thief, all in all is a pretty decent guy. He does not commit violent crime.

30. THE EXPENDIBLE THIEF
He is one among many thieves who are considered expendable. Some may become more useful over time but most do the dirty dangerous work.

Note: the thieves can be either male or female.

This isn't what the 30 is about. It's various people within the same profession. If it had been 30 thieves with various personality traits and outlooks on life, then it would be a "30". As it is, it's just sort of a list of professions

It is a 30. The 30 of them would all fall under character class of thieves in a roleplaying game. True I should of named it the 30 thieves, but its just like any other 30 in all but the name of the submission. In fact I was pretty close to naming it the 30 thieves any way I didn't know the name would make that much of a difference.

Also a thief is not a profession and neither is a criminal. But they all belong to a group and they are all linked together by the Master thief. This means that my 30 are part of a gang and as such are a valid 30.

I think CP's point was, each thief has a totally different skill set (though there is a little overlap) and no inkling of their personality. You have listed 30 skill sheets and nothing more.

In gaming parlance, you have listed Character Seeds - ideas to build a character around. A couple others have done the same thing and they are working on those. Please join their number.

On a personal note, you have a large number of assassins here. Why do thieves need assassins? I can understand the occasionally Wet Worker (for extortion, heavy lifting, etc) and enforcer to protect the gang and such, but your group has a number of people who do nothing but kill people.

So basically your saying I listed the characters professions and not there personalities. That is a fair point. But I feel that their professions make them individual characters.

But that is obviously not working for others, hence the comments.

And the Point of the posts in this Codex is to list a set of personalities and emphasis so ANY GM can just scoop them up.

I agree with CP and moon, this is weak sauce, still useable, just not a very sophisticated tool. great for people that don't like to read and prefer just to scan text.

Armies of the Night

       By: Wulfhere

The villages around the capital have a strange new disease cropping up. Spread by a fungus (much like ergot poisoning), it causes its victims to be very sensitive to sunlight. Hundreds of peasants are hiding from the sun, only coming out in the darkness to labor in the fields. Unfortunately, rumor makes their behavior sound more sinister and secretive than it really is.
