First Impression

Stonebrooke has the look of a wild woman, a long mane of auburn hair cascading down her back, fit in a green hunter's coat with a long tail, and black skirts divided for riding. Her fierce gaze is accentuated by the scar that dominates the right side of her face, tracing claw marks into her scalp and crossing through an eye that has since been replaced with a smoothed piece of turquoise, replacing the long-missing orb. She has a short hornwood bow, a pair of short swords, and several daggers suitable for throwing.

The epitome of an adventurer for hire.

Double-Take

Stonebrooke is young, but her apparent age is offset by her mixed parentage. She is half-elfin and looks little more than a late teen, despite being in her mid-thirties. She also keeps to herself and is not attached to a traveling party. Examining her hands and torso, she has no rings, necklaces, sigils, or signets declaring her attachment to any of the established heroic guilds, she is a freelancer. There are also scars on her right arm and hand. These have long since healed, but a well-trained eye will recognize the damage as having been inflicted by a displacer beast, and given the scarring, she is lucky to have survived.

No one speaks the elfin tongue, not even the elves. They will lie to you, tell you they do, but its bullshit. They speak a patois that's half common and half Low Elfin. The only things they use the high tongue for is magic, singing, and their names. Then, since even they have a hard time with those disasters, they adopt craft names. Its always Brightleaf, Silverberry, or some other nonsense. Their empire is gone, their ambition is dead, and now they are a bunch of impotent grumps who just happen to look like they're in their forties because for some reason, their entire species is granted every advantage, every boon, and every thing they could want and what do they do with it?

They die because they get sad.

Getting to Know

Stonebrooke is an unhappy woman, laden down with issues and problems, and no means to address them.

She was exiled from the elfin lands as soon as she was old enough to be considered self-sufficient.

The guilds have had little interest in signing a martial half-elf. They want their half-elf applicants to be bards, sorcerers, and more than anything else, wizards. Stonebrooke has no aptitude in magic, and cannot even read the elfin alphabet.

Her work history is spotty. She is a level 3 Ranger, but this has been ground out, not actually carrying out dungeon raids, quests, etc.

Know All About

Animosity is a driving force for Stonebrooke. Her elfin mother was assaulted by a human raider and by custom, she bore the child. This half-human girl child was considered little more than a glorified animal, and was treated accordingly in the household. She was not educated in elfin fashion, and her exile was as much her escape from a cold and uncaring childhood. Given this upbringing, she has not been able to integrate into human society, as her mannerisms are elfin, and she still feels a strong degree of revulsion towards humans as she was raised as half animal, and these are the animal part of her blood. The elves see her as a daughter of rape and will have almost nothing to do with her for that reason, almost as if the father's sin is something she could inherit in her blood.

This is also a factor with her and the Guilds. The Guild of Adventurers-Upon-Return has a strong elf presence, and they tend to immediately discard any attempt she has made to join. The Guild of Champions is so heavily aspected into PvP combat, arena fights, gladiatorial events, and so forth, they have no interest in signing a ranger who isn't going to be in the city sparring on the sands. The Guild of Heroes, that typically recruits from the demihumans, unwanteds, and the outcastes also decided that they didn't want to recruit her, because she wanted to be a ranger and forest guide, and not part of their urban activism campaign, and support their increasingly chaotic platform.
