Appearance:

Prismatic Steel appears in it's raw form as prismatic ore, a dense and heavy rough black stone made of many micro-crystalline formations much like granite. Included in this matrix of dark formations are a rainbow of different crystalline lattices and inclusions. It is a pretty material to look up, and has more uses than can be imagined.

Structural - as a iron rich granite, it is well suited to being used as a building material with many mundane structures in Tir an Scathanna being made from hewn and shaped prismatic granite. This is usually used for foundation and structural elements in buildings, castles, towers, and bridges. The great Citadel of Doomguard is made of structural prismatic granite but this material has been concealed under a facade of chromatic basalt, reflecting the regular rivalry between Doomguard and Lichelight.

Decorative - much as granite is used for cladding buildings, and countertops, prismatic granite is similarly used. Most of the material is fine for buildings, but sometimes sections are found that demonstrate great aesthetic value, and these are used to make decorative stonework, statues, and as mentioned above, counters for laboratories, library flooring, and in the construction of ritual chambers.

Magical Items:

Prismatic ore and prismatic steel are both created by the Lichelight dungeonplex, with the most common source being the regular eruptions of the floating volcano dungeon that bears the actual name Lichelight. The most common magical crafting use for prismatic ore is the creation of Caryatids/Atlantids. These animated stone statues are commonly retained as the immutable staff and administrators of many of the fortresses and dungeons in Scathanna. As evil warlords, necromancers, infernalists, and the parade of evil leaders constantly fight and replace each other, it is a common tradition for castle seneschals and castellans to be monstrous animated figures imbued with magic intelligence and abilities.

Prismatic Steel is highly favored for creating magical tools and implements, with some craftsmen devoting their entire skillset to crafting prismatic steel knives, daggers, plates and bowls, and other ritual implements.

Artisans and blacksmiths in Scathanna are some of the best metalworkers in Cridhedun. Their skill in working with the tricky material that is prismatic steel puts other metalworkers to shame. Elves and mithril come close, but mithril is an innately forgiving material for work with and elves have very long lives to perfect their skills. The comparable goblin craftsman has to either rank up and excel in their craft or die in relatively short time.

Prismatic Arms and Armor

Prismatic steel makes excellent arms and armor, something that causes quite a deal of concern for the other realms of Cridhedun. It is available in large amounts, its not hard to recover from Lichelight, and the forges of the floating volcano are excellent for turning the molten lava flowing from the caldera into ingots and then into tools, weapons, and armor with the assistance of volcanic heat and natural essence.

Material Effects and Abilities:

Prismatic Steel can also be considered 'status ailment steel' as well as being highly predisposed to enchantment and magic enhancement.
