King Inturt's Chain
The original armor of King Inturt. Was lost to him on a long past campaign when he was captured by his enemy. When rescued they couldn't find his armor or weapons. If found, he would pay a hefty ransom for its return. Sentimental value.
It is common chain mail with 5 rows of gold trim along the bottom of the chain shirt. Along either arm is a row of 3 gold rows of links that follow the arm up and meat at his neck where 3 more gold rows of links surround the neck.
The mail was lost on the last campaign the King went on. He was expertly captured and ransomed by an unknown group. The ransom being paid, they released the King but kept all his belongings, including the chain. Now the King wants it back.
The suit of chain was King Inturt's father's mail and his father's father and so on for many generations. While the mail is not incredibly strong, it holds much importance in the kings reckoning.
Most any person over thirty will most likely recognize the chain mail if shown it. Very few armorers will not recognize it if it the players try and sell it.

Probably be more used as loot the players find. Then when somebody notices them wearing it or carrying it they could get into some trouble.
I like the description of the armor, but you should give more rich detail of the back story and the motivations.
2001! Wow.(for the age, the item needs work, but it was an early one...)
Well, I guess that at that point, the citadel needed posts..
A minor piece, but this could certainly be the hook for a larger adventure: "So you say you found this armor in an Orc hoard, eh? Well, I might be willing to go easy on you if you take care of this little problem I have with the kingdom next door. I can't get involved directly, you understand..."
