Sceptre of the Greataxe

This was made for a king as a Sceptre of Great Acts, and was meant to aid him with royal ideas so that he could come up with Great Acts and be a popular king. However, when he was given it at his coronation and tried to use it's magic, it summoned a huge axe for a full minite and all the nearby courtiers had to throw themselves to the ground to escape it. Two who were too elderly and plump to dodge it were cut in two. It remained in service, but as a royal battle weapon. If cast by someone for the first time who does not know what it does and noone is attacking at the  time, it richochets back at the PCs and anyone nearby. In stats turns, those who fail to make a Dex save get cut in two, but the staff can only summon the axe once a day for one minite per day.

Sceptre of Long Life

Made several thousand years ago for the Pharaoh Upshi, holding the sceptre with both hands stops the holder from aging at all, whilst holding it with one hand halves the rate of aging. Obviously it's not practical to hold the sceptre constantly, certainly in both hands, but it is light and can be easily held in one hand, and tends to extend life expectancy from one third to one half.

Sceptre of Feather Fall

This was meant to slow a falling person to the speed of a feather, so they would not get hurt or die when they reached the ground, but when tested with a six foot fall it made all the feathers fall off a nearby bird. It was sold to a chicken processing plant to defeather the dead birds, and a hundered people lost their feather-plucking jobs as a result. If used against something like a Giant Roc, the staff will cause it to crash out of the sky, but it has no effect on dragons or pterodactyls as neither has feathers.

Sceptre of the Soulmate

This was created for the Princess Amelia Sempill for her 21st birthday and is said to be able to uncover soulmates by pointing at them and glowing when it  points directly at them, although it has only been known to do this once. This is not because the mage who made it was a fraud, but because unfortunately it can only be used to find soulmates when they are within sight of each other. If used to fight, it works in stats terms as a +1 Quarterstaff that being magical, can harm those who can only be harmed by magical weapons. 

Sceptre of Dispel Blind

When the Emperor Karl the Fifth of the Empire of Ka-Phum was deposed after bad harvests, water shortages and putting the taxes far too high, he was blinded by the ambitious general who took his place, using a red hot needle to spill the wine  of his sight from the cups of his eyes . That sad fate was what tended to happen to both deposed emperors and captured royal pretenders, to prevent them from being a threat to the throne ever again. But the ex-Emperor had feared from when he was a prince that he might face this horrible fate someday, so had spent a lot of money secretly on a Sceptre of Dispel Blind. One of his few supporters who remained smuggled it to him, but all it did was make all the blinds in the small house that he had been given vanish. When he died a few years later it was buried in his tomb with him.

Sceptre of Fire Balls

As one of their final tests before graduation from the magical military college named East Point the cadets were required to create a Sceptre of Fireballs. One year, a certain Cadet Wesley Scroggs made a mistake in his magic and accidently created a Sceptre of Fire Balls. When tested at the East Point Firing Range, at first it created musket balls and shot them with the force of a musket, but after a few shots it started firing basketballs, footballs, tennis balls and aniseed balls with a lot less force. Cadet Scroggs failed the test and had to retake the year before he finally managed to graduate as a War Mage.

When first used, it fires 1D6 musket balls a day, with the same damage as if they had been fired from a musket. After that it fires basketballs, footballs, and then tennis balls and aniseed balls that have little or no effect on an opponent, but are  still useful for playing a game, having a snack in the case of aniseed, or putting dogs off your scent.

Sceptre of Diss Guys

A princess of Vallermoore wanted a Sceptre of Disguise so that she could get to really know what was going on both within the royal court and outside it amongst the common people and become a better ruler as a result, but either deliberately or accidently something went wrong in it's making, causing her when she tried to use it to say horrible things about men for several minites. It was recycled for the silver in it and made into coins.
