Amplifier Stud

She wore an odd blue gem stud in her navel, it was a very attractive piece of jewlery. But, I just couldn’t seem to get her drunk.

Full Item Description
Typically a beautiful piece of navel jewelry, it is a tiny blue gem stud on a metal bar, it can be used in a variety of places; such as on the eyebrow, in the ear, through the tounge, the navel, or the skin between the first and second toe. It has different effects depending on where it is worn. All of them have some sort of positive and negative amplification results.

The Gem:
The magic is in the small blue gem, it is known as Amplinyte and once rained from the sky. It is very rare, and it is said only to appear on the highest mountains after a devastating storm on the night of a full moon every 5000 years.

At most, there could be 15 of these stones in existence. They are very delicate and must be treated with extreme caution. If scratched it will violently explode with a loud pop, injuring those nearby (possibly fatally, especially if worn) and causing ears and eyes to bleed.

The process of getting the most out of these stones is an ancient alchemical recipe, known only to Those of the Highest Order.

I suggest these be found as part of an ancient treasure horde or in use by an interesting NPC that may later be killed and looted.

When worn in:
- The Eyebrow -
When this item is pierced through the eyebrow the wearer can see as far as and with the clarity of an eagle, but anything close up becomes harder to read the longer the stud is worn and is a permanent effect.

- The Ear -
Greatly increased powers of hearing and deciphering garbled noises. Unfortunately, lous noises can cause nausea, headaches and even temporary paralysis.

- The Tounge -
Can identify the ingredients in food or drink to the point of being able to tell if it is poisoned or has some odd element to it. Speech is garbled and hard to understand, effects end when the stud is removed from the tounge.

- The Navel -
When worn in your navel, you can withstand poisons and toxins to a greater extent, but the more you wear it: the more your appetite increases. The drawback is a permanent effect and may cause weight gain.

- The Foot -
If you for some reason decide to pierce the skin between your first and second toe and place this stud in: You will be affected by a decent boost to your walking speed and be able to sprint like a cheetah for short distances. The drawback for this placement is horrendous foot odor, it will last from 5 minutes after insertion until a good scrubbing is applied, but will come back eventually.

It is considered good practice to wash this item at least daily, and especially before inserting into a new location (Foot to Tounge? Eww!)

Other uses for Amplinyte
- In Power Sources -
Does your Mana Crystal need a boost? Keep one of these near it.

- As a Spell Component -
When mixed with the bat guano and sulfer of a fireball this little gem could get one helluva kick out of a classic spell.

Feel free to list any others you can think of in the comments! Thank you.

Useful, but bad news if it gets scratched in a fight.

I don't see the need to make them that scarce, rare.. I could see.. but with such small numbers, they are more a curiosity than anything else.

That said, I like this piece. Nice, functional, and clear.

It's a great idea. It just seems that it has more cons then pros. Its one of those things that some people wouldn't bother with because "it's not worth it."

Talking to Cloud, I realized the "Exploding when scratched" factor seems a pretty big risk. I would advise to not make it blow up on a PC unless they were trying to tamper with it or someone purposly targeted it (knowing it may explode) but I would give it large size modifier to its armor. ~ Just a thought.

A nice piece to use for a specific objective. Could the players cause one of themselves to become farsighted, just so that they can see farther for a while.
Good Job, Pieh.

The amplification is cool. Misspelled 'loud' and tongue(even though Tounge is a common misspelling...)

What if they had a trepanation and imbedded it in their brain? :P

When the characters approach a clearing in the forest, they will see 4 ogres who are guarding, and preventing from escape, 4 human males, and 3 human females. The ogres will see the party and leap to attack. The females will scream "OUR SAVIORS!!" and run screaming straight across the currently forming battlefield, in between ogres and party members, to hide behind the rearmost party members. They will be safe there. The males will try to skirt the battle to the north side to join the women.

To the south, giants will be hiding in the thick underbrush until the party has engaged the ogres and then attack the most opportune target EXCEPT the ones that the females are next to.

It should be noted that the female commoners are not female commoners at all, nor are the male commoners actually male commoners. The female commoners are the hags, who have polymorphed themselves as the commoners in their stewpot to escape detection. The males skirting the battle are actually MORE ogres, the hags were in the process of polymorphing ALL the ogres into regular humans for ambush purposes. The REAL commoners are already dead, having found their way into the coven's cauldron for dinner.

The hags (the women) will position themselves near to any spellcasters in the rear first, and then near anyone else in the back of the fight. The ogres (the men) will wait until the hags shift form, and then attack first the rear folks, then shift into the melee.

It is possible that the characters, as they approach the ogres, will notice the giants in the bush, and be able to warn the others of the ambush.

GAME NOTES: If you sell the screaming women correctly, they will not even be suspected until it is too late. Therein lay the problem. This encounter is ESPECIALLY deadly to the rear eschelon of the party. It is entirely possible that the hags will finish off half the party before they even realize they have been duped. Caution is required if the game master wishes to avoid a TPK(total party kill).
