The Sons of Charshaf


First he becomes sweaty and feverish. Then the boils begin. The boils are beautiful. After that, he finds it difficult to breath, then move, then he drowns in his own blood. Is that sufficient?

The Sons of Charshaf are assassins devoted to the worship of Charshaf, the Lord of Ashes, a god of disease and plague. The Sons of Charshaf have an elaborate temple-fortress in a cavern complex in a certain mountain range in a certain portion of the land. They can be contacted by knocking on the corner of the building closest to the gates of a city, whereby a nearby initiate/contact of the Sons of Charshaf will be sent to take the price.

The Sons of Charshaf have a very unique way of killing their victims- in their Temple of Charshaf, they possess jars containing dusts of the various plagues and illnesses that they have collected in their long history. When the Sons send out an assassin, they contaminate him with any of a great variety of horrible maladies.

The Son of Charshaf travels as beggar or a leper, resisting the disease with willpower and prayers to the Lord of Ashes, making his way to the appointed victim. When the victim is found, they are infected, and the assassin usually either dies from the disease or allows himself to be captured. There are no antidotes for the sicknesses that the Sons of Charshaf keep; the deaths of their targets are assured.

uhm, they've just unleashed six kinds of plague and wiped out the entire surrounding population!?! Well, it would give a whole new urgency to "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer" - since then they would die, too, in any assassination attempt.

I guess it could be venereal diseases... And that the combination of multiple diseases made them highly lethal, so that the chance of further contamination was really low.

I guess the sons (and daughters) of Charshaf could develop obvious signs of the disease in the middle of the whole lovemaking session, literally falling apart in bed. "Oooh, wheres my nose?".

Grim stuff. But why do it this way?
Why not just infect their target and get on with it.
I understand that they are fanatics, but that still does not explain why they are fanatics.
Will their God reward them in plague heaven if they die this way?
Do they feel that man has sinned and needs too be punished?
Why are they assasins at all? If this is religiously motivated, why bother to assasin people?
Why not just target whole villages or continents for that mattter.

I really like the grim feel too them, but they need some more logic and motivation.

The Forest of Flesh

The party has found the source of the strange creatures roaming the countryside. The rift in this reality glows with a silver hue, rippling with the wind but never moving. They step through and are immediately assaulted with the scent of rotting meat, some have to muster all their strength not to vomit. Strange cries similar to the beasts the party had faced before can be heard in the distance. Looking around, they see they are in a forest of grey and red rather than the normal brown and green. The trees are sticky to the touch and writhe, perhaps to get away or perhaps as a warning.

The deeper the party goes, the more the forest seems to slither and move underfoot. The cries get closer and more numerous. Creatures lurk in the shadows, all the same color of their surroundings. Whatever the party came in here for, they had better do it fast.

The forest of flesh is waking up, and it is so very hungry.
