Ƶeonics

The science of Ƶeonics was created by Dr. Yamanaka Sō. The doctor, and the rest of his team were working under contract to the Pacific Rim Coalition's Department of Energy and Arcanotech Research at the University of Akukan. The facility was formerly located on an island near the coast of the Republic of Korea. The team pioneered high densityenergy research and alternative power sources to deal with the nation's ever increasing demand for plentiful, cheap, and safe electricty. This was considered a high priority as the peninsula had already dealt with a number of DFEs over their handful of D-reactors. Cheap power was great, until there was a glitch and everything ran in reverse for an hour, time included, and then lurched again and fried half of the sensitive electronics hooked into the grid.

Dr. Sō managed to access a previously unknown state of energy through the use of the Akukan Ƶ Reactor. The reactor successfully completed a dimensional bore and stabilized a portal and then quickly flooded with a strange luminous fluid, and then exploded. The rebuilt reactor had improved failsafes and a magnetic containment field, because before going offline, the sensors indicated that the glowing fluid was a room temperature plasma, and had tremendous energy density. The team was successful and started storing this material. They found that when treated like a battery, the plasma silo delivered power. After a series of tests, the entire university was powered from the central silo of the Ƶ reactor.

Thus, Ƶeonics and Ƶeonic power were discovered.

Dr. Sō christened the new form of matter as Ƶeo Energy. The follow up Ƶ reactors proved as reliable as the prototype reactor, and banks of silos were easily constructed to store vast amounts of this electron soup.

Usage:

Ƶ Reactor/Commercial -  power plant, siphons off Ƶeonic plasma, and then immediately converts it into electricity to pump into the grid.

Ƶ-Silo - These structures act identically to capacitors, but happen to be the size of buildings. They are used to provide power when demand exceeds the capacity of the reactors, or when a reactor is taken out of service for maintenance. Military applications include using them to provide large amounts of power for high energy weapons like naval grade plasma and particle cannons.

Ƶ Pak - tiny personal use batteries such as for home electronics. A phone with a Ƶ pak battery can run for months without needing to be recharged from a Ƶ port.

Ƶ Port - a power outlet for transferring Ƶeonic plasma. More akin to an umbilical than a power line, and typically used to provide refueling to commerical Ƶ paks in automobiles, electrorotor craft, and varieties of robots, mecha, and even buildings if they are disconnected from the grid and require power.

Ƶ Cell - a military grade Ƶ Pak capable of powering military vehicles, including mecha.
