The Cathedral of the Sentinels

To access the Fortress of Doom, the former home of the Doomslayer, you must locate the Cathedral of the Sentinels. This is an ancient temple that remains relatively intact. In the inner sanctum of this temple you will find the Portal of the Slayer which must be activated in order to be teleported to the Fortress of Doom.

However you are not alone in this task. The Order of Christian Crusader Knights PMC has found this place ahead of you. They are also trying to locate the Portal of the Slayer and use it to gain control of the Fortress of Doom. Thankfully the portal is extremely well hidden and finding it will not be easy. Throughout this ruin you will likely encounter them and have to fight them off. Where exactly these encounters occur and how hard they are is not known.

Accessing the Portal Chamber requires you to solve an elaborate puzzle in which the pieces are hidden throughout the temple. There are 5 sections to this temple: Cathedral Alter Chamber, Cathedral Living Quarters, Cathedral Library, Crypts of the Sentinels, and the inner sanctum known as the Chamber of the Sentinels.

The Cathedral Alter Chamber >> This is where the alters to the Sentinel Priests are found along with the pews and podium for religious services. No services are held due to this place being long since abandoned after the forces of Hell took over the world. Hidden inside the largest alter is a stone ring that has unusual markings on it. You need to take that with you as it is required to open the Portal Chamber.

The Cathedral Living Quarters >> This is where the priests, monks, and other religious people tasked with maintaining the cathedral once lived. All that is left are the beds and other amenities required for living. Inside the bath chambers is another stone ring with odd markings on it. It is disguised as a part of the stonework but you can pull it out.

The Cathedral Library >> This is where all of the tomes and manuscripts documenting the history and lore of the Sentinels is stored. Amazingly the documents are still intact after all these years and have only collected dust. Inside a locked display case at the center of the reading room is the next stone ring you must collect.

The Crypt of the Sentinels >> This is where the bodies of the Sentinels faithful are interred. Some of the tombs have been desecrated by the forces of hell when the last surviving inhabitants fought off the invading demons. Here you will find the remains of the Doomslayer and his sword known as the Crucible. Pick it up and take it with you and then proceed to the tomb in the center of the crypts. That is where you will find the forth stone ring.

The Chamber of the Sentinels >> This is a large room with the statues of the Sentinel Priests all looking at an ornate circular design on the ground. In front of this design is a pedestal that has a stone disk and a series of empty spaces that the 4 stone rings you collected can fit inside. Place them inside and 4 buttons in each corner of the pedestal will light up. Pressing the buttons will rotate the rings according to a hidden set of rules which in turn rotate the design on the floor in the same way. Once you figure out the secret pattern, push the buttons so that the Rune of the Slayer is created. This causes the center of the floor to lower revealing a hidden staircase to the Portal Chamber.

Once inside the Portal Chamber you must know the secret passphrase to activate it. The only clue to what it could be is the following inscription engraved around the edge of the portal gateway: "DEI, QUOD RELIQUUM EST, NOLITE METUERE, ET OSSA TUA LIBERABIT, EXSPECTANS". To activate the portal you must input the translation of this Latin phrase into the control console.

The solution to this is as follows: “YOU, WHO AWAITS GOD, DO NOT FEAR, WHAT IS LEFT, AND HE WILL GIVE YOU STRENGTH.” However the OCCK will not think of trying this and go for a more literal translation and thus be unable to activate the portal. Little do they know the correct phrase has already be given to you. If you have been really observant, you might have noticed this phrase carved subtly throughout the cathedral.

Once you activate the portal, you have access to the Fortress of Doom, a home base where you can relax and plan future adventures.
