Orbs of Darkness and Light
Resting in a small chest set on a pedestal kept in a room populated with various artifacts lay two spheres that could fit both hands. One, glowing a brilliant blue-white, as a flame. The other darker than the blackest night.
Resting in a small chest set on a pedestal kept in a room populated with various artifacts lay two spheres that are roughly 5' across. One, glowing a brilliant blue-white, as a flame. The other darker than the blackest night. Together, the orbs have little effect. But if one or the other is uncovered or the orbs are separated, they produce a radiant blinding light, or an all-consuming darkness for ten feet around them.
Uses
The characters may find such orbs in an artificer's private collection, or in use as part of a trap or weaponized by those with truesight.

Useful things.
I was a little confused by this, do they fit in one hand or two? When you uncover or separate them they work, so if I have one in each hand what happens? Just a few points of clarity in the write up would really help me.
*Fixed 5' across.
5' is a good size
The way I am reading this is if the are uncovered 'or' separated. It should be 'and' so you can carry them separate without enabling the power. But I like it if they were covered or not they would get the effect. And I would say 20 feet apart because closer they would cancel themselves out with the 10' effect.
And it goes through any covering unless it is lead or something inconvenient.
But it is a fun item that would really mess up your players if two people carried them and went too far away from each other. They would both be yelling, 'Oh the light.' 'Oh, the dark.'
Fun. And I am absolutely certain that players would come up with some insane ways to use it. I really like this.
