Appearance:

The Amberstone pipe is a smoking pipe that has a six-inch long xanthanite bowl connected to a foot-long river reed. It was well worn with time and use.

The pipe has a long and narrow bag that it is carried in. Accessories such as a sparking stone, replacement reeds, and pouches of herbs to be smoked are typically also carried in the bag. The outside of the bag is brightly colored, and will commonly have tassels, fringe, or other decorations. This displays the purpose of the bag, and that of the person carrying it.

Use:

The Amberstone pipe is used to smoke crushed plant materials. Its ritual appearance makes it more than a smoking accessory, it is the sort of pipe that was carried centuries ago by the wise folk of the plains tribes, and later adopted by traveling merchants and imperial peacemakers. A person who carried and presented such a pipe was to be treated as an honored guest, though was bound by the same formal rules. This allowed the wise folk, merchants, and peacemakers to travel through war-torn areas, and avoid being predated by bandits. It was proper for a group of bandits to be offered a bit of tribute, in exchange for respecting the peace of the pipe.

These long stem stone bowl pipes have been duplicated, though the xanthanite amber stone bowls are considered the most valuable or sought after. While pipes are associated with wizards and magi, they tend to avoid these pipes, as many have resonances and lingering enchantments of peace, and to speak no untruth. Foolish is the wizard who says exactly what he means. These pipes are more commonly found among surveyors, traveling merchants, traveling entertainment offerers such as menageries, carnival acts, and acting troupes.

Imperial Leaf

The Imperial Registry records a number of types of plants that were used for ceremonial and religious purposes as well as a description of their overall effects. These plants are all still relatively available, though some are expensive and hard to acquire.

Gysahl Leaf - focuses concentration and steadies the body. A common leaf used in peace meetings, also favored by archers before going into battle. Wizards likewise favor gysahl for having a steady hand. The leaf has a pleasant fragrance and distinct blueish smoke.

Karakka leaf - sharpens the mind and calms strong emotion. This has long been a leaf favored by those who do seek peace, as it allows for meetings where wits prevail or passions and hatreds. It has an earthy smell and a slightly bitter taste.

Tantyla leaf - a valuable herb, it sharpens the mind and steadies the hand, though it tends to cause intense daydreams when used in large amounts. Some vision quests use baskets worth of tantyla smoldering in braziers to induce euphoric and dream-like trances for the seekers.

Pashana leaf - a suspicious herb, Pashana causes those who smoke it to become passive and docile. It can be given to prisoners to make them calm, and can make spellcasting difficult. Berzerkers and other emotionally charged character classes can be interrupted by the use Pashana. Sorcerers who partake can find their ability to draw power compromised.

Kurye or Kuriel leaf - a medicinal herb, it reduces the ability to feel pain and reduces emotional volatility. It is often used after battles are fought so that the leaders of the surviving sides can speak without being overwhelmed by pain or passion. It is also commonly used by the elderly, those with a lingering injury or emotional trauma.

Re'agina leaf - another medicinal herb, when smoked allows for fitful sleep and protection from nightmares and night terrors.

Memmet Leaf - bolsters the spirit, steadies the hand, and instills bravery and courage. A common leaf for those who feel themselves in peril, or are engaged in a perilous exercise. Common for explorers and soldiers.
