7 Towers

1-Wizard’s Tower 

Many wizards like to live in towers that they either make using their magic powers or buy from their owners. There have been cases where these wizards and sorcerers have gone rogue and evil to the point where The Upright Society of Civic Wizards has sent a chapter to either bring them to heel or take them down by force. When they encounter wizards that are so powerful that even they can’t deal with them, they hire PCs as mercenaries to do the job for them.

Such towers are likely to contain treasure in the form of magical staves, spell books and spell scrolls but also magical guardians such as animated armour, animated bear rugs, animated hands and things like that. if the rogue wizard is defeated and his tower was made of magic, it will wink out of existence when he dies, meaning that the PCs would be well advised to bring parachutes or levitation magic to avoid falling to the ground and getting seriously injured or killed.

2-Prison Tower

A tower can be used to house dangerous criminals, with the most dangerous of them housed at the top of the tower, so that if they escape from their cells they have to fight or sneak their way down the entire tower to escape successfully. The PCs could be trying to free someone from a prison tower or to escape from one and either way it will not be easy to do. There is only one gate and it is made of six foot thick iron, with a dozen or more prison guard inside.

3-Tower of the Dead

To save space, Cemetery Towers can go high into the sky and deep into the ground, containing large numbers of urns, large numbers of whole- body tombs, or large numbers of both. Some of these might contain Funeral Gold And Grave Silver but others might contain something nasty like an Urn Beast or mummified Bandage Beasts that will fight if accidentally released from their tombs or urns by grave robbing PCs.

4-Military Tower

The military often have towers of their own to spy on hostile territory or on the borders of unfriendly foreign nations. These will have machine guns or the equivalent technology at the top and be heavily guarded and armoured. Perhaps the PCs have to try and sneak past one of these border towers to get somewhere .

5-Observation Tower 

Observatories in high towers on the tops of mountains are great places for looking at the stars with telescopes and radio telescopes, and as they are not prisons or military installations they only tend to have normal levels of security. Perhaps the PCs need to meet a scientist that they need the help of.

6-Tower of Babel 

A royal palace tower of the distant past, the place is ruined and overgrown now, and a myth about it is that once everybody spoke the same language, until a power crazed king tried to get his subjects to build him a tower to Heaven. The gods and goddesses were not having that, so they magically caused everyone to start speaking different languages and the workers could not understand each other, stopped work and scattered across the world.

It is possible that even after such a long time there might be treasure in the tower, along with various forms of aggressive Undead.

7-Tower of Power 

This was built over a source of magic from one of the Old Powers of the planet, to prevent the magic from leaking out and doing unpleasant things like spontaneously raising anyone who dies as a Lesser Undead, or turning people into random monsters or inanimate objects. Perhaps a crack has developed and the PCs are sent in to fix the crack, or perhaps the PCs have been hired by a foreign government to damage the tower, or maybe they want to speak with the Old Power trapped within the tower and it wants something in exchange for the information that they need.
