Soldier's Graveyard

a mystical place for dead heroes

Just outside Pal Arden, the magnificent and invincible capitel of the kingdom of Istrien, lies a vast cemetery known as Soldier’s Graveyard. Ever since the founding of Istrien only devoted and brave soldiers were buried in this sacred field. It is said that whenever Istrien is in danger and the king rides over the graveyard all the soldiers will rise from their graves to protect the kingdom once more.
As the heroes travel in the border region of Istrien they encounter a wounded soldier who is carrying a dying comrade. He claims that the fort where he and his comrade were stationed was attacked and completely destroyed by an invisible force. Now he tries to save his comrade’s life and to warn the king.
There are several possibilities. On the one hand this story can be true and whatever destroyed the fort is now out to get the last witnesses.
Or on the other hand (my favourite) these soldiers are traitors and escorting them to the capital or even burying one or both of them on the Soldier’s Graveyard will cause some (undead) troubles.

Next up on the Jerry Springer show, traitors burried in the graveyard reserved for only the bravest of warriors!

Corpse: I can't believe you burried those... traiters there!

King: Oh?! And what are yah gonna do about it huh!? what! what!

Crowd: Ohhhh!!! Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!

All joking aside, I like the story... Could be the opening for a story that takes place beyond the grave... Lots of room for immagination!

I like this idea for five reasons. 1) It is credible in moderately magical world. 2) The PCs cause this problem if they are careless. 3) The PCs have to solve a problem for once without the promise of coins. 4) And the resulting "monsters" are not necessarily evil. 5) The PCs will have to use their wits to figure this one out.

This idea could really be used to train bad RPers to start thinking.

Quool's Tide

       By: Murometz

Once every decade on the eve of St. Poskov's Day during mid-winter, the coastal city of Tiyabon experiences a horrific event. Quool's Tide rolls in, depositing hundreds of bloated, fish-eaten corpses upon the pebbly shores of Tiyabon's wide bay. This singularity is to this day unexplained, though countless theories abound. It is said for example, that these corpses are not eaten by the myriad fish of the seas completely, due to the fear all creatures of the seas hold for Quool.

Named for Quool, a terrible, antediluvian god of seas and storms, who no longer exists for he has no worshipers, the Tide chokes the beaches and surf with the countless rotting bodies of those who had perished at sea in a violent way.

Almost immediately, the lifeless corpses are fed upon by crabs, gulls, and worse things that await the horrid feast. The townsfolk let nature take it course with disinterested disgust, though lately some enterprising adventurers have taken to searching along the beaches of flesh for former deceased companions, with intentions of raising them again!

Surprisingly no undead ever rise from among the many corpses. This is also a mystery.
