Animated Gauntlet of Thunder

By:

A magical synthetic limb, with the power to call Lightning and Thunder.

The Gauntlet appears as a near perfect replica of a human arm and hand, in shape only, enscribed throughly with runes associated with the gods of Light. The gauntlet appears to be made entirely of steel, and the runes are etched upon it in relief.

Crafted by a Father Max, the Gauntlet serves to replace the arms of those who have suffered a similiar fate, provided their faith concides with that of the crafter.

Magical Properties:

When placed upon the stump of a severed arm, the Gauntlet will meld to the body, replacing the lost limb, be it right or left arm. It will become a perfect steel replica of the lost arm, excepting the runes visible upon it surface. The bearer will be able to use it as he would his own arm, and in time, will notice no difference, as the gauntlet will convey the same senses to his body, and the weight will feel the same to him. However, it will always be made of cold, hard, steel, and anyone he touches will realize this quickly. For this, and any of the benefits to be granted, the character must be of a chaotic good or equivalent alignment. Otherwise, nothing will happen, though lawful evil creatures may or may not be struck down by lightning.

In combat, the Gauntlet is damagable, as per any other limb wearing full plate mail, of a moderate enchantment. The wearer may use it to parry and block weapons, however, it may come at the price of pain should the metal be pierced. Damage done to the Gauntlet can only be repaired by striking it with lightning, from any source. The Gauntlet will grant the wearer immunity to any electrical attacks, instead absorbing the energy to repair and refresh itself, if it has been invoked.

Further, the Gauntlet will grant the wearer the ability to control lightning, to a degree. Five times per day, the wearer may invoke either a powerful thunderclap, or an eerily silent bolt of lightning. Once per day, he may invoke a chain of lightning, or a ball of lightning. These charges may also be refreshed by striking the wearer with lightning.

After a drought of good items, finally.

I really like this one. Superb job. Why it was made, what it can do, wonderful. It's not too powerful, well balanced, and inspired.

I would have the prospective user lose thier arm in service to the appropriate god. I think that would be a fitting reason for replacement.

One question. Can the wearer invoke the silent bolt of lightning on himself to charge the arm for either the chain or ball lightning? Or would he need to strike himself more?

I would leave that up to the DM in question, but myself, I wouldn't allow it on a one to one basis, probably on no conversion basis at all. Primary reasoning behind this would be that the gauntlet would release the energy, reabsorb it, and finding that there was not enough energy to fuel the higher function, it would use it to ready the lower function immediately. In the heat of battle, there's not a whole lot of advantage to storing power in a 'useless' form, and it's not intelligent on its own.

Took me a bit to find it after reading Father Max, but 'tis interesting. I think it could be fleshed out a bit more.

Screwdriver Sword

       By: Gossamer

For a futuristic grim gory setting. Probably powered by some kind of dilithium battery or something similarly awesome. Anyways, basicly a big drill sticking up from a hilt that you primarily use for skewering enemies painfully and drilling through armor.
