Derivish Blade

Normal small knives modified to give fast attacks. Enchanted versions are even more deadly.

A small, sharp knife with only a 5 to 8 inch blade. Attached to the knife’s pommel is a short length of chain, only 4 to 6 inches, depending on the weilder’s hand. The chain only needs to be long enough to streach from the top of the middle finger to the bottom of the pommel when the knife is held normally. A chain too long will cause the knife to slice up the sides of the wielder’s torso and arms. The chain is attached to a ring that is worn on the weilder’s middle finger.

When the Derivish Blade is worn, the kinfe cannot be dropped. In addition, the knife can now be swung about similar to a pair of numchucks. While these fancy moves are impressive, the are usually MERELY impressive. Because the knife is suspended from a chain, it has little impact unless it is held in the hand. Small, shallow cuts would result from being struck by a swung knife, but that could possibly cut a rope that was otherwise hanging out of reach. One very useful move that can be done with the derivish blade is to reverse which way the knife is pointing with a simple flick of the wrist, taking less than a second. This move allows for a change in the style of attacks and can throw an unprepared opponent off gaurd.

Magical Properties:

Various types of enchanted Derivish Blades have surfaced from different sources. They range from the predictible posion blade to some as outlandish as to produce pictures when spun in the air. Some of note are listed here.

Death’s Touch
This pair of Derivish Blades have been enchanted to make thier chains stonger and have the ability to enlarge and shrink. The chains can grow up to 15 feet long. With proper training, the blades on the end of the chains can be used like the weighted chain weapons of china. Even a novice user can simply throw the blades into walls and trees and swing from them.

Traitor
This Derivish Blade has been enchanted to make the user and all his equipment completly silent when it is held point down, the favorite position for stabbing someone in the back.

Silver Lightning
Perhaps the most deadly of all Derivish Blades, this blade has been enchanted to give the wielder haste (doubling speed, attacks and any other applicable actions) while the blade is spun.

Vanguard
This intelligent Derivish Blade has been enchanted to parry ono attack a round by spinning into it’s way. It can parry attacks with the strength of a hill giant, but cannot block area of effect attacks like fireballs and such. It can turn aside attacks like those from axes, arrows, polearms and even small boulders. It’s enchantment allows it to streach around the weilder’s body to reach the attack. The intelligence inside the blade seeks to be at the front of the conflicts around it and will try to defy it’s weilder’s will to be anywhere else, even on a diversionary raid.

There are many types of enchanted Derivish Blades, so this list is by no mean complete. Other types exist, some intelligent, some not, and most blades found are simply knives without enchantment, but a few are cursed. Be careful of the knife you pick up, or you might just give yourself a knife in the back.

This one has been added to the Intersting Weapons, non magical, just because the mundane versions of these weapons are really useful. Enchanted they are just more so.

It strikes at the rules of that thread, but it is a neat item.

While not very practical in it's description I have seen similar weapons used in martial arts. Some with small blades, some with hooks or weighted balls. All have a similar effect and are more devistating than they first appear.

While I do not see implimenting this into my world, yet, it is still a nice idea especially if you have a cinematic or swashbuckling combat rule system your using.

Hooper McFin's Two Shot Portal

Now, this ol' ramblin fellow tends to walk his talk a bit too far down the train sometimes.. So I'll be brief in my recantin' of how it was my Tavern "came to bein'" on the multiverse as a weave of it's own spell.. And how I'm even alive to tell the story!

You see it's simple really, trust me.. that's my specialty, keepin it elementary. And you can trust this old Bard.

Anyway, this one night these wizards get a ramblin' on about the temporal exististance of space and time and how it could be manifested in a weave of super dimensional space. whereupon the folded space would give rise to an infinite number of entrances and exits to one or many spaces. Now, seein' how my talkin' sometimes get's locked into the way us folks used to talk back in the ol' west. These wizards didn't know I was a master of the word. and I had heard everything they said. They were also a bit over the wagon, while I was steerin' the show.

So that's how it came to pass, I struck a bargain with the wizards. They come to me in the morning and conjure up their idea into reality and I'd pledge them my life, my existance.. in essence my soul. but in a much nicer sense of the word. So they came by in the morning a half remembering our talks the prior evenin'. And I recanted their words verbatum, and that's how it came to be. The spell was complete that afternoon. My tavern would be the super dimensional cube that would exist in this weave of space and time, folks could come and go as they please, knowin in mind some of the rules and limitations set forth.

A few of 'em as follows.

No feller can be causin a ruckus inside any of my fine establishments, as always rule number one god damnit.

n' second the portal works kinda tricky. When ya outside ya cast the spell and lend your will to luck a bit and regardless the doors to the bar will appear, the windows a luminescent amber.. you can hear the chattee but ya can't see in. And the catch is the door might be locked, in which case you chalk it up to lady luck and go walk off and try again in an hour. Now most times the door pops right open and from the outside you always come in the front door, immediately greeted by myself or one of our many fine patrons of Hooper McFin's Ale & Steakhouse.

Now when ya cast the spell from inside the Tavern, another catch comes up. The back door is mainly a secret for the non-initiated staff and the regulars but for sake of the prose let's assume we all know there's a secret door in the back with a portal there. Now when you go on through this one, you got two scenario's you oughta be aware of. One is ya pop outside relative to the same spot you came out. The other is, you walk back on into this one or another of our many Hooper McFin's Ale & Steakhouse.

so it's a clever quantum railroad I got my tavern and my people's caught on. But, Hey the show's sure as always goin. ohhh' rutin tootin skidoodle -

** And that's it.. that's the only notes I found on the spell, apparently out there somewhere is a Tavern caught on the mighty ebb and flow of the multiverse. Well. at least I can put to rest my torment as to the condition now referred to as "Hooper McFin's Teleportation Paranoia".
