The Consuls
Where there is crime and vice there will useually be those who are prepared to fight it, and many of them are members of, or have been trained by, this branch of the Golden Order of Knowledge.
The Consuls
The Consul branch deals with laws and law enforcement, and their members are either training to be city guards, rangers and other forms of police, or as magistrates and lawyers. If they choose police work then they are trained in unarmed combat, the use of the baton and the use of the crossbow. Just as important, they are trained in when such skills are needed and in what not to do. Torture for example and the beating of those who are not in a position to fight back is strictly forbidden.
They are also taught in how to cultivate informers, how to testify properly in court and how to see the signs of those who are possibly dishonest Unlike the Curatios who are normally welcomed anywhere, they mostly tend to be found only within the 'civilised' countries, although they can be sometimes found in out of the way locations. Most rulers welcome them, as they are useful for keeping law and order. They are either paid by the cities or, in out of the way places, by the wronged person. In the latter case half of the fee is up front and the other half is paid if the criminal is convicted. Again, there is a sliding fee scale as there is with all the branches of the Order.
Others become lawyers for the defence and the prosecution and often reach the rank of magistrate or judge, but these will rarely be found in out of the way areas.
Their motto is 'Punish the Wrongdoer' and their symbol is a golden baton upon a purple background. There are persistent rumours that chapters of the banned and malignant White Knights http://strolen.com/content.php?node=1328 have infiltrated them. The Consuls of course hotly deny this which only makes the rumours grow like a rash when it is scratched open.

This seem strangely unfinished to me. It feels like a guild, but it seems to lack motivation. Moreover, if I were a lordling more interested in doing what I want than doing the right thing, I can see someone coming in and trying to tell me how to run my courts as very... irritating. But it could be useful as a plot mechanism, especially with the possibility of the 'over zealous paladin' angle.
This is not much by itself,I know but it is supposed to be part of a much bigger thing. I don't know how to put all the things in a codex. It is one of seven open branches and one secret one of a large organization.
Okay. all these posts should of stayed hidden in your workspace until you put out the big center piece (then you could of followed the FAQ directions and made it a codex (when editing the submission, simply click the codex flag, it is about 2/3rd the way down before you start entering text). If you put the main post up first, these might make more sense.
This, like its mated piece, is strangely disjointed. This piece however, makes a bit more sense. We can extrapolate more.
Their motto is 'Punish the Wrongdoer'
This seems to be contridictory to being defense attorneys? Unless these people have magical truth sensing or seeing abilties (and if those are available, why would anyone need to have a lawyer/ trial, as a set of seers could pronounce what actually happened), how do they know who is innocent - besides the person's own admissisions.
So this group trains members. Would be nice to know where or how.
So they are taught police abilities.
So we have police officers who have a sliding scale based upon the person's ability to pay. So you can pay for justice then.
The whole payment of half up front half after conviction thing gets confusing. Are they mercenary investigators then? Pinkertons?
So they teach 'police' of all stripes. Then they also teach lawyers? That is a totally different school of study (though related). Odd.
Defense attorneys, see above. So their training will let them be judges and such. And why are these rarely be foundin out of the way areas? Not enough money to pay our mercenary investigators?
