1-There is no afterlife

In this case the atheists are right and there is no afterlife. Magical Resurrection must be done very quickly before the brain dies, otherwise the body will only  be brought back as a mindless zombie if the spell works at all. Zombies are just those who were magically raised after their brains had already  died. For every thirty seconds somebody has died, the chance to bring them back using magic as anything but a mindless zombie goes down by 5%. After more then five minites, magical resurrection won't work and you are just creating a new zombie.

2-Where you go depends on how you acted

The classic idea of the afterlife and most likely the one supported by the main religions of your world. Depending on what  happened, a bad PC who is magically brought back might want to clean up their act, if they remember what happened, whilst a good PC might feel blessed and get a LUCK bonus.

3-Everyone goes to heaven

It could be that everyone, even your world’s equivalent of Hitler, goes to Heaven after death. Those who are brought back by medical intervention or a Scroll of Resurrection will be moody and unhappy for a while without knowing why. Or if they do retain memories of the afterlife and make them public, neither the Church or the State will like what they hear and it could attract their negative attention. If everyone goes to Heaven after death, regardless of how they acted in life, why behave well? Why should people fear the death penalty  if it just sends one to a far better place?

4-Everyone goes to hell

Perhaps the opposite applies and everyone, regardless of how good they were in life, is doomed to Hell. Those who are brought back to life in some way, by magic or otherwise, will be pathetically grateful and develop a huge fear of death, lowering their skill in combat as a result. Again , if they have memories of Hell and start saying that they saw churchmen and nobles down there, it might cause some negative attention from the Church and the State.

5-Ghosts

The dead become ghosts, able to see the world and hear it but in most cases not to influence it. Those who have killed a lot of people in life, might have a lot of ghosts seeking revenge on them when they die, but most PCs won't have this problem. With ghosts in the world, a game with the PCs as ghosts would be possible.

6-Reincarnation

The dead are reborn as somebody-or something else. Perhaps those who are brought back by magic have strange tics as a result or perhaps there is no change.

7-Stuck in your own dead body

The dead awaken in their own dead body, unable to move or speak but aware of everything around them, and to feel pain as well from their wounds, meaning that cremation would be agonizingly painful whilst burial would be a different kind of pain. Again, those raised back to life are likely to have a true horror of death which would affect their fighting prowess either negatively or positively. Maybe someone raised like this can hear the dead speaking, in which case walking through a graveyard or a cremation ground would be a very unpleasent experience. Burning bodies would wail in pain like they were in the fires of hell, whilst buried bodies would complain bitterly about cold and dark, maggots and boredom. It might be possible for him to get infomation from the dead in exchange for them being raised as Undead.
