1-Wand of Wonder

The Wand of Wonder looks like a wand fit for an Archmage, made of the finest wood and giving off an aura of powerful magic. But in fact, all it can do is glow in the dark. It’s used as a decoy, and is claimed to be the most powerful wand in the magical university equivalent of Oxford or Yale. That way, if  elite sneak-thieves breach the university’s magical defenses and steal it, or undergraduates steal it on a dare to get into a magical fraternity and it gets accidentally broken in the process, nothing important will be lost. Whilst the Wand of Wonder sits on show in plain sight, the real Wand of Wonder is in a hidden safe within the Archmage’s private study.

2-Weapon Wand

When the right magical word is spoken, a three foot long, Jedi sword- like cone of magic comes out of the tip of the wand. It can cut through anything non magical, although even weak magical weapons can parry it without damage. Another magical word turns off the cone of magic. If you only know the word to turn the Weapon Wand on but not how to turn it off again, it can’t be sheathed or concealed.

3-Wand of Finding

A favourite item of prison officers and customs officers in every country, this wand points to any particular illegal items in its immediate vicinity. Hiding forbidden items and smuggling them is much harder when these wands are common. It is also useful for finding lost items or hidden treasure, but it needs to be attuned by a mage first before it can be used to find items.

4-Booby Trap Wand

This crystal wand is enchanted to splinter when someone casts magic within it, cutting the hand of the user and making the spell cast through the wand ricochet back on him or her. A combat spell will hurt the user, a love spell will make the user fall headlong in love with a random person, evt.

5-Wand of Evil

This style of wand has a very nasty reputation. Necromancers, rogue wizards, and other malign mages and wicked witches have used it in the past and still use it for evil today and as a result, many countries ban this kind of wand entirely. It’s the wand equivalent of an SS dagger or a flick knife. Police or the equivalent come down harshly on those caught with one of these.

6-Elemental Wand

There are four kinds of these, water wands, fire wands, air wands and earth wands. The magic of water wands is strongest on or near the sea, rivers or lakes. The magic of earth wands is strongest within caves and tunnels. The magic of fire wands is strongest near fires and volcanos, and air wands have their strongest powers in the open air.

If you cast, for example, a fireball spell from a water wand, there will automatically be a critical failure and the wand will snap in two. They can only cast spells that are tied directly or indirectly to their element.

7-Wand of Command

This wand gives the power of command, but how much power it has is tied to how much magic you know. A non magic user can only command flies and mosquitoes and other small insects. A village witch could control a cat or a small dog. A sorcerer could control a Lesser Undead or perhaps a bear, a mage could control the average human, and an Archmage might even be able to command a dragon. But if you overuse the wand, it’s magic will burn out, and you are unlikely to be able to recharge it before whatever or whoever you are controlling attacks you.
