Vague predictions of the future and lead one to adventure.

I’m looking for any cryptic and/or mysterious prophecies, or things that can be interpreted as prophecy.  Any format, and suggestions for what it could mean if you like.  Many prophecies seem to be in the format of poetry or bardsong, but they can be any way you like.

The old man's clouded eyes suddenly cleared, revealing a cold, icy blue. He raised his withered arm, pointing directly at the warrior's head.

"Dread thee the mighty Raven;
For it's beak draws thy blood quickly."

(CP's explanation: The vampire Brahms takes a raven as his symbol and has set his sights on recruiting the warrior as his lieutenant)

The shaman writhed on the ground, the psychedelic mushrooms taking hold of his body. He suddenly sat bolt upright, and spoke with the deep voice of a different person.

"The Tigers and the Phoenix soon shall do battle;
The eagle with golden pinions is awake again;
The rat spirit is restless."

(CP's explanation: First line; The tiger-men are planning an invasion of the nearby Firebird Fortress. Second line; Golden Pinions Youhei has returned from the Underworld. Third line; The rat-men are planning a great invasion of the surface.)

Was just playing around, listening to Nightwish, and I realized that there are a lot of song lyrics that could make good prophecies.

Case in point: Wishmaster (by Nightwish of course)

Heartborne, 7th Seeker
In me the Wishmaster

A dreamy-eyed child staring into night
On a journey to storyteller`s mind
Whispers a wish speaks with the stars the words are silent in him
Distant sigh from a lonely heart
"I`ll be with you soon, my Shalafi"
Grey Havens my destiny

Sla-Mori the one known only by Him
To august realms, the sorcery within
If you hear the call of arcane lore,
your world shall rest on Earth no more
A maiden elf calling with her cunning song
"Meet me at the Inn of Last Home"
Heartborne will find the way!

Crusade for Your will
A child, dreamfinder
The Apprentice becoming...

More song lyrics as prophecies

Wherever I May Roam

...and the road becomes my bride
I have stripped of all but pride
so in her I do confide
and she keeps me satisfied
gives me all I need

...and with dust in throat I crave
only knowledge will I save
to the game you stay a slave
rover wanderer
nomad vagabond
call me what you will

but I'll take my time anywhere
free to speak my mind anywhere
and I'll redefine anywhere
anywhere I may roam
where I lay my head is home

...and the earth becomes my throne
I adapt to the unknown
under wandering stars I've grown
by myself but not alone
I ask no one

...and my ties are severed clean
the less I have the more I gain
off the beaten path I reign
rover wanderer
nomad vagabond
call me what you will

but I'll take my time anywhere
I'm free to speak my mind anywhere
and I'll never mind anywhere
anywhere I may roam
where I lay my head is home

but i'll take my time anywhere
free to speak my mind
and I'll take my find anywhere
anywhere I may roam
where I lay my head is home

carved upon my stone
my body lie, but still I roam
wherever I may roam

I have an NPC in my game that periodicly shows up before climactic events.

Some player on watch in the morning makes a spot check, and sees a purple-haired girl of their species in a cloak. When they look back, she's gone.

The NPC is named "Omen" and is the personification of such. She's divine rank 1.

Some cool sounding prophecy (adapted from the Celtic Song of Amergin)

I am the spear that roars for blood
I am the boar ruthless and red
I am the tomb of every hope
I am the tide that drags to death

Another prophecy:

Spears agleam in the dying sun,
The blood is spilled the battle's won.
From the icy throne the God-King shall rule,
When nine stars kiss the moon over Ultima Thule.

Blaspheming priests, shall rule the nation,
whilst between the sands come the birth of creation.
But creator, 'ware, for danger lives;
from 'neath the waves, destruction breathes.
The branch of fate, set with tears of life,
is the key, the weapon, the device.
obtain it fast, for destruction grows,
death arises from the sharks death throes.

In a time where priests, feigning loyalty to their gods, rule, a child will be born in the middle of the great desert. The prophecy acts as a warning for the creator (who may be a god incarnated or something of the sort ). In the sea, his mortal enemy grows. Perhaps a fish-man of some sort .

To gain victory over this foe, the creator must find a 'branch of fate', perhaps a branch off a sole tree in the middle of a forest, that some sort of tribe/community worship, saying it gives visions of the future for those who open their minds with it.
Next, he must find the tears of life. Perhaps the 'river of life' has a cave running underneath it, and down there is a pool. The river slowly seeps into this cave and as it goes through the soil, picks up salt, which crystallises after it drips into the pool. He must find a way to fuse the branch and crystals together to make a staff. (the branches of fate will provide a vision of where to find the destroyer, and the tears of life imbue the branch with the means to destroy him) He must make this weapon quickly, because the destroyer is using death, killing sharks, to obtain energy and mass required to make an army of shark-men, which can breathe air, as well as have gills. The destroyers purpose is to destroy life above ground.

Setting suns
Herald of the New Moon
North star fading
From ashes the of supernovas the One arises, Hope for the Rising Sun
Rising Sun Fleeing the unending darkness
The Master of Night hunts the One Bringer of Light
No order
No peace
No balance
While the two exist
Only one can walk will away

Setting suns is the end of an golden age for peacefuly united kingdoms.

A new moon is night when you can't see the moon at all, Herald of the New Moon means the rising of a powerful dark figure unreachalbe by the light.

North star is the brightest star in the sky, North Star fading is the death of the king or hero of old.

From ashes the of supernovas the One arises, Hope for the Rising Sun: From the remains of the destroyed empire, a chosen one arises to vanquish the dark one, he/she is the only hope for a new peace.

Rising Sun Fleeing the unending darkness, the usurped heir flees the persecution from the dark one.

The Master of Night hunts the One Bringer of Light: The dark one discovers the threat to his reign and hunts down the chosen to elimnate the threat.

No order, No peace, No balance, While the two exist: Means there is no possibilty of any peace for the New Moon or the One. While one of them is alive.

Only one can walk will away: Yeah same thing.

This is a great idea and a wonderful addition to the site. However, I fail to find a reason to vote on the header to this scroll as it consists of three sentences. It is a great idea and perhaps if it had an idea or a description on how to create a believable prophecy then I would definately vote on it.

Well, there could be a few tips or an article attached to it, but the topic - getting inspiration - is probably found in other article(s). Somebody please link it back. One good source is mentioned here: songs.

Good one - a fine list of prophecies and a good place to add more!

This has some meat now and some of them quite delicious (SE and Luke's contributions I particularly like b/c inclusion of the correct interpretations) but it's currently an oddball mix of other people's creative work republished here and actual Strolenati creativity. Still, this is an oldie sub. so I won't be too harsh on it so a 3 on this topic that I'm quite fond of.

A sword that stores the identity of the wielder. To transfuse the soul to the blade, one must first stab himself through the heart. The person will not die, but lose the freedom of the soul upon real death.
