A nicely adventure to spring on the party after they have become attached to a helpful NPC that accompanied them on adventures in the past. For a variation one could also substitute a relative of one of the PC's to add a more personal touch to the adventure.

Like others have said, this character has potential, although she does seem very powerful for her age.

I agree with what Ancient Gamer as far as her "perfection" is concerned. Perhaps increasing her age to 140+ (she is an elf after all) would help explain where she gained such skill with magic and steel?

The idea of her being unable to control her magic makes for a nice start, perhaps maybe add in a few minor scars from her training with a blade and battles up to this point? (maybe even an old injury that acts up once in a while?)

Some more detail into her personality and emotions would also help round out the character more.

A few questions to help inspire you:

-How did she feel about selling her self out for assassination missions? Was the first kill easy? Did it bother her she was perhaps making someone else an orphan just like she was? Has it occurred to her she has become no better than the person she is seeking vengeance upon?

-Why did she do assassinations for so little coin? (depending on the setting, usually 7 silver is barely enough to cover a hot meal.) Was it because of her morals and being choosy on the contracts? Her inexperience? (One would imagine a spelling slinging sword master for hire could command solver hundred gold a contract easily)

-Have any of her contracts effected the political atmosphere of the surrounding kingdoms? (perhaps causing the war you alluded to?)

-Where did she meet her true love and how? Did he willingly leave to fight in the war? Was he drafted? (some kingdoms were known to draft peasants into militias to defend their borders) Or were they separated when the enemy forces ransacked their town?

-Why did she not fight in the war herself? (With her combative capabilities she could have marketed herself as a mercenary with ease) Was it due to beliefs? Fear? Other obligations?

-What has she done during the years of her travels? Has she met anyone of significance that has changed her outlook on life?

If you can cover some of these questions and flesh her out into more of a fully developed
character I'll be happy to change my vote much higher. Also run the spell check option before submitting to help iron out any more spelling errors. (This character has the potential to be a 4.0 or higher with more detail and a good overhaul.) Go to Comment

Nice update, the changes make her feel much more "real" and give some nice plot hook ideas. (I could imagine the PC's traveling with her as she searches the war torn kingdom searchign for her lost lover.) I've also re-voted to reflect my approval of the changes. Go to Comment

A nice place for some lighthearted adventures, and likely to make most characters (and players) rethink their views on goblins being "little better then rats and other vermin."

Good plot hooks as well, and quite a memorable main character, I can see his accent and mannerisms sticking with the party for a long time after the visit.

More Plot Hooks

One of the more prominent merchants in town accidentally left his wedding ring (or other bit of precious given by his wife) in his clothes when turning them in for a wash; and now he's desperate to get it back.

The hunt is on for the halflings and rogues within the party to sneak in and find the ring before it gets tossed out in the wash water and before the merchants wife notices it's missing.

Simple, twisted, and scary once people realize the depths of the items power.

Having this item be cherished above all others by a well known rogue could easily lead to many greedy chars attempting to steal it for themselves. "If the leader of the thieves guild value it that highly it *has* to be worth a fortune!"

I am curious though if the demonic possession of the creature makes it indestructible or if it simply teleports away when damage to itself is imminent. Go to Comment

A sweet idea, perfect items to reward a paladin, or any other character with a mount. A few of these will be making an appearance in my Fantasy campaign. Go to Comment

This kind of place works perfect for a "lost valley" on the outskirts of the explored territories.

(I can also imagine someone trying to "bottle" the mist for use in magical experiments.) Go to Comment

Very nice, I've been needing a lich for an upcoming adventure and this one fits the bill nicely. Given he is so close to a human skeleton I can imagine him posting as just another corpse in a dusty corner of his mansion, or one of the mindless skeletal horde he doubtlessly controls. Go to Comment

A fun idea and can make for an amusing curio at the local alchemy shop. One small nitpick, is the misspelling of "balloons" as "Ballons."

Nice npc, she would make a great guide for any group traveling through a jungle or wooded area, or an even better side kick/partner for a druid or ranger.

In a higher tech setting such as Shadowrun or Rifts she could also be used as a cat shaman or beast master with ease. Go to Comment

Silveressa's comment on 2008-05-20 10:48 PM
Fun and twisted. Combined with a pc that has the curiosity flaw (or better yet a player with it) you have every excuse to send the pc running across the world in search of know-it-all sages, magic keys, and anything else they think may open it. (Of course once they *do* manage to get a deity to open it or find out there's nothing inside they may well try and fit the gm in any conveniently nearby box, depending on their sense of humor.)

Oh and Pieh, do me a little favor and put your idea up as a sub linking back to this one so I can give it a proper vote and comment (+1 is too little for the idea). It's good enough it it's own right to stand alone.

Edit: One little question, Why isn't this a golden submission yet? It certainly deserves to be one. Go to Comment

Excellent sub and full of great ideas. Any interesting question arises however, does the society allow/encourage inbreeding/incest? Or do they send out raiding parties for new people every so many years?

If they do send out raiding parties to acquire the best and brightest for their lands population it makes for a great springboard for adventures such as:

To rescue a Living Treasure

The heroes find themselves on a hired to rescue a world renowned artisan who was suddenly abducted by strange white clothed warriors who sailed off to the north.

Rite of passage

As part of the passage from child to adult, young adults of the mist valley must join a "gathering party" and leave their land to return with several people of worth to join their culture and keep it strong. For these young warriors who have never known debilitating injury or sickness the outside world can be a daunting place, but tradition demands they return successful, or not at all...

Sanctuary, Refuge Denied

Fleeing a war, plague or continental catastrophe a ship full of refugees seeks sanctuary in the magical northern lands, rumored to be safe from all the mortal worlds horrors. Unfortunately while following a returning group of gatherers they manage to wreck their ship upon the coastal rocks, and  are forced to either negotiate with these secluded winter warriors, or find a way to breach their defenses and  carve a piece of the mist land for themselves.
