The imageries work in this piece but I would rather like to see it expanded. Currently, it's a great flavour/inspiration piece but I think there's more potential to it. Still, one can't expect too much from an Oekaki. Go to Comment

11. The Soft Paradise aka Forbidden Pleasure

A potion that helps a man fulfill his wildest and most lusted after dreams and more…

  • 6 strands of virginal hair from the female victim

  • 6 drops of blood from the male beneficiary

  • parts of a plant that has aphrodisiac properties

  • soil with Zomorrod powder mixed in

Grow any plant known for its aphrodisiac properties (the stronger its aphrodisiac properties, the stronger the effect of the potion will be) with the Zomorrod-infused soil. Extract the relevant part of the plant at midnight of a solar eclipse day and grind it to dust (or make it into liquid form if it’s a flower or fruit). Mix in the six drops of blood from the male. Remove six strands of virginal hair from the woman by root and put them into the mix.

A good 10, up to your usual high standards. Might want to give the sub once over though to check links eg. Orthacarium was in suggested submission but no link to it in main text; Likewise, no link for Darkwater. Go to Comment

Like everyone else had said, a good background piece to explain the number of 'cursed or dysfunctional items' going around.

Something I don't quite get is the following line: "They do not produce weapons except as a trap for their user, for there is a shred of honesty in the bare blade or flying arrow." It's probably prose but I don't get how conventional weapons are inherently more 'honest' by nature or am I misinterpreting this whole line? Go to Comment

This isn't one of my 5s for which I pretty much need to be swept off my feet but for me, it is perfectly written and I wouldn't want a thing changed. So congrats on a very well written sub. I'm glad that you followed your impulse and churned this out. Go to Comment

I wasn't here yet when everything was in the forums but there's a few idea here that I agree with:
For the public in-works, not a lot of action on them yes, but apparently Muro and LS are still using them as a means of self motivaion to get things done. I used to do that as well but now I stopped. Not sure whether that alone is sufficient reason to keep this largely redundant category for anyone cos like you said, you are shifting that function to the forums, not removing it altogether. So on the whole, I'm in support of this idea of moving public in-work to the forums. This also gives you the space to put in new submission types- the no voting type submission for actual submissions, not stubs, for authors who essentially don't want the harsh critiques that have come into place as a norm at the Ctiadel.

The user-submitted idea portion I agree with in a general sense but as a non-gamer on the way to becoming a gamer, I'm not sure whether the quietness of the user-submitted idea was a manifestation of this lack of courage in posting that you attributed to the harsh critiquing or simply that in most instances, established Strolenati take the care, sometimes painstaking care, to make their sub so complete that one simply can't add anything to it via a user-submitted idea. Also, there is no culture at the Citadel to share different interpretations in a user-submitted idea, you do that in a comment, to start a discussion with the author. Go to Comment

I'm with SE on this one, I actually like its light touch on actual practices and dogmas though that was more a constraint of time rather than author intention. And like Val, I love the evolution described here. Go to Comment

I'm normally not a fan of infernal themed subs, but this one is a nice surprise. I like how the boons and curses linked to each of the books is relatively 'minor' in a sense.

btw, you can and probably should link back to your own scroll on Ngama Ngama in 30 Devils by using the syntax {sub_id#comment_id|Ngama Ngama} where you replace { with [. The sub_id#comment_id can be found when you go back to the 30 Devils sub and then click on the eye icon on your scroll on Ngama Ngama. Not sure whether you know abt the syntax or not so might as well write it down here. Go to Comment

Still a solid piece however this one has some typos. For example, in the first section, 3rd paragraph, 'through' has become 'though'. In the last plot, 'they' is typed as "then". Also, in the title, the apostrophe has been eaten up? Go to Comment

I see, I thought the apostrophe might have been eaten rather than being intentional. I remember in migration to version 3, all apostrophes in my subs had been eaten and I had to manually add them back in.
And yeah, with items, it's sometimes just so natural to name them The..... Go to Comment
