The Thuggee (deceivers), also known as Phansigars

Borka - An initiate thug.

Bojha - One who takes the body to the disposal site.

Lughae - Gravedigger.

Sootha - Thug who scouts out a town and, while gathering information on likely travelers, attempts to convince them to accompany the Thuggee band for safety.

Chookadena - Thug who distracts victim by pointing upward.

Legholder - While it is known that one of the pre-strangler rank Thugs is assigned to hold the legs of the victim, I have yet to find the Hindi term for this position.

Shumseea - Older thug who holds hands of victim.

Soon - A thug who is not yet a strangler.

Bhurtote - "Senior," the thug who actually strangles the victim.

Baroo - A highly respected member of the band.

Hilla - A title of honor for one of the three thugs responsible for the Kusee (picakaxe), goor (sugar), and selecting the murder site.

Beylha - The member of the band who selects the murder site.

Ustad - Thug term for a teacher or tutor.

Guru - A priest of Kali.

Burka - A chief or leader.

Jamaadaar - Chief of a band.
