Star Silver
By: Pieh

The Essence of Light, mined from the body of a fallen Star-Child.

Star Silver - The Body of a Fallen Star Child

When the Silver Queen scattered part of her light among the night sky, her Star Children were born. The Star Children are the watchers of evil in the night, providing light to illuminate the treachery of complete darkness, even when their mother is away. Once I a while, for reasons unknown, be they divine quarrels or evil intervention, a Star Child will die and fall from the sky. These corpses appear as molten rock, warped and charred, filled with Star Silver. Star Silver is the very essence of light solidified, when a Star Child dies, so does its light, and the metal can be harvested and put to use in holy artifacts.

While called Silver, the color is only partially so. It appears to have a swirled pattern of constantly shifting pure silver and creamy pearl. It is unsettling to evil creatures, and quite calming for a normal person to gaze upon.

Its physical properties are that of silver, and as such it would make a poor weapon. However, in the light is revealed the truth and the strange metal has a remarkable amplifying effect when used in combination with divination magic.

Nice stuff. It's remarkable how a Star-Child's innate clear-sight can be put to such widely different uses as the Queen's Chalice and the Mirrors. I'd eventually like to see more relics of the church that use this.

My first guess is that most Star-Children would die from curiosity rather than foul-play (they see something that fascinates them on the world below and get just a liiiitle too close to the edge . . .). Being born of deities of overwhelming goodness, it should take a lot to twist a Star-Child to evil purposes. I do wonder what an evil Star-Child would look like, and what properties the metal from its body would have.

A certain culture believes that evil can live beyond the grave. They also believe that the destruction of the dead body can keep that one from coming back. Destroying the newly deceased body can destroy the soul if done properly. They first burn the body for 24 hours, smash the remains as well as possible, then burn the what is left for another 24 hours.
