Priests of Geryon

By:

Priests of the god of agriculture.

Many a village is blessed by the presence of a priest of Geryon. Easily the most numerous church in the lands, it calmly enjoys its status, and doesn’t ask for more. They stand for the community, and for the arts that bring people together. Currently they have a strong focus on agriculture.

A priest will be knowledgeable of many crafts, particularly those of "his" community. In smaller villages they will grow their own crops; in larger ones, where more spiritual work has to be performed, they would merely attend a small garden. The cemeteries they care for as gardens, but of a different kind: as a place to remember for the living, and a place to calming down for the dead. Growing anything edible in these gardens is considered wrong; but some healing plants that thrive in this environment are welcome and used.

Signs
If there is something as a symbol of their office, it may be the Pildun Bowl, a tool to measure grain, and perform rituals like the Autumn Sharing, or a ceremonial blessing of worthy people, by pouring grain on their head.

While not directly a symbol, fire in general, and open fire in particular are used by the priesthood, mentioned often in their holy texts, and even a part of their powers - all due to their religion’s history.

The seafaring people of the Southern Islands value their ships greatly, as do other maritime nations. However, they take the beliefs about ships a bit further. A ship's name is very important, once it is named it shouldn't be renamed anymore, ever; most renamed ships seem to fail sooner or later. Ships do not tolerate parts from other ships, a single board from a wrong source can cost sailors their lives, so it is said.

Most ships are identified as female, very few as male, though there is no tale of how their personality is identified; it has nothing to do with the name, for example. The Clarissa (a well-known male ship) is said to like good wine. So whenever sailors or passangers drink, they have to spill a glass for the ship, too. But that is only the most known example.
