Flip. Flip. Flip. Flip. The sound softly echoed in the Sanctum’s walls.

This is the collection of spell books, and limitedly books of Arcane Lore. Now by book, it is meant scroll, tablet, book, or folio.

A Holy Book - 1 By: MoonHunter
Items » Books and Scrolls » Villanous

It appears to be a very nice holy book of the dominant good faith, the kind that his passed down from generation to generation. The binding is leather and quite plain, but the inside is nicely scribed and occasionally illuminated. A pity that it will lead you down the Path of Darkness the moment you understand its secret.

Book of Angst By: Strolen
Items » Books and Scrolls » Cursed

A very ornate and very old looking spell book. Chock full of spells, most of which are unreadable by any magic user. The ones that can be read, unfortunately, don’t have the affect the mage is looking for.

Legends of "On True Power" By: MoonHunter
Items » Books and Scrolls » Villanous

Exerpt from the Introduction:
I know the ultimate weapon. Humans commit folly after folly because they are afraid. Fear was once Humankind’s most powerful ally, giving enormous potency to the instinct for suvival. Now, fear has become Humankind’s greatest enemy, and such is the obtusemenss of my species that is members do not realize it is the most powerful element of Human existance.

Lexicon Mortis By: Erebus

Will this tome be the saviour or the bane of your heroes?

The Fifth element is that of Spirit, and thus the providence of PrayerCrafters. As Spirit moves, so does the other elements, as there is a connection between them. One is the shadow of the other. When there is a connection, it is always two way. Thus we can manipulate the spirit through the use of the other elements, and obtain healing through the use of non proscribed magic.

Tablatura Ni' Shockra, the Book of Surprises By: Fearghus

Nerundill caught hints, snippets of conversation. The rumors surrounded a book, a book of magnificent power. A book that contained the knowledge of the ancients. With every new tantalizing bit of information he heard, his resolve to possess this book increased.

The Book of the Dead By: manfred
Items » Books and Scrolls » Campaign Defining

The Egyptian Book of the Dead is a name referring to a set of ancient mortuary spells written on sheets of papyrus. Incidentally, it is also a good example of a campaign defining piece.

The Complete Guide to Necro-Nautical Magics By: Pieh
Items » Books and Scrolls » Villanous

This is a wretched tome of oceanic blasphemy; a foul water-stained, bone-white binder of bitter dead-men’s secrets and a guide to Nautical Necromancy useful in the hands of the young sea-faring necromancer or the Great Lich Umeen herself.

The Parasiticon By: valadaar
Items » Books and Scrolls » Villanous

A vast tome of knowlege that literally gives you the creeps…

The Way of the Magical Hand By: MoonHunter
Items » Books and Scrolls » Non-Magical

The Hand is the most important tool in magic. It can be used to trace symbols, focus attention and concentration, and allow for easier manipulation of mystical flows by tying certain actions to similar hand gestures. It is the ultimate tool of civilization.

Tome of Illusions By: manfred
Items » Books and Scrolls » Magical

Deep within a strange labyrinth, a book wields the magic of its former master. Illusion becomes reality.

Ye Zoldering Grimoire By: Wulfhere
Items » Books and Scrolls » Cursed

This ancient text is the legacy of one of the greatest mages of all time, but using it can be quite a challenge!

Well mostly, lists of spellbooks/magical books are not very interesting. But I like this one... a useful group of items to have for reference.

A useful linkage. Could use some more added though. Will dig and see what I can find...

There are not that many actual spellbooks on the site. So this is pretty much it.

There may be a book by Scras, I need to check

Not from lack of trying though. We just tended to make more books that were just normal books.

I think this was because we specifically said we didn't want magical books in the "Books" codex. Besides, there's only so much you can do with the magical book idea.

Scroll option has now been added. The Books scroll has gotten some magical books recently.

Patterns in surnames: There are many ways a surname could have evolved over centuries. One possibility is migration. A Roman name may have traveled to France and hence to England where it was later Anglicized. Case in point - the surname Lawrence went from Laurentius (Roman) to Laurent (French) to Lawrence (English) and then to Lowry (Scottish). There is also natural etymological evolution. For example, a Middle English spelling may have evolved to a modern English spelling (e.g. Stiward to Stewart). Where did your character's Surname come from?
