Full Item Description
The Goblet of Sin is a beautifuly made golden goblet, able to hold up to a pint of liquid at a time, and studded with amythests at the base.
The Barons of Elohaloth were slavers, back in a time when slavery was both legal and quite common. Most of the slaves at that period were Orcs that had been taken as prisoners of war, or human criminals and debtors, but it was rumored that the soldiers of the Barons illegally enslaved free humans as well.
The Seventh Baron was one of the nastiest of the lot, who delighted in raping young human slave girls on the main table of his palace. There was nothing illegal in the practice, as slaves had no rights at all. On one occasion a victim, a young twelve year old girl, bit the Baron as he was forcing himself on her, and he strangled her to death with his bare hands. Her mother, a former priestess of Mammon, secretly spat into the Baron’s favorite goblet and cursed it whilst the Baron was asleep, calling on Mammon to curse the pedophile who had raped and murdered her only child.
Afterwards the Baron found that everything that was drunk from the goblet tasted sweeter then normal and he used it more and more. His lust grew and so did his pride and arrogance, until he was not only screaming at people under him, but at fellow Barons who were his equal. When he was not abusing them, he was trying to sleep with their wives or their daughters. He got into two duels as a result but won them, the first because he was a master swordsman, the second with a hidden dagger after his blade snapped in two.
When the King of Elohaloth came to stay the night, the Baron could not resist trying to seduce the king’s fourteen year old daughter. The royal guards caught him in the act, and within a day he was swinging from the town gallows like a common criminal, his property and barony forfitted to the King for this act of high treason.
The King took the goblet with everything else, and he found it useful. Even dirty water would turn into sweet pure water, and no poison would work when it was in the goblet. After a few months the King started to change. No longer was he the wise King of old, and he let a minor border dispute flare up into a major war with Vallermoore. Queen Yocasta was in the prime of life back then, and her armies easily defeated his and ravaged the Kingdom for good measure. The King was captured and turned into a galley-slave, and Yocasta took the goblet along with everything else. She was never the same after that.
After her downfall and that of Queen Amber who ruled after her, the goblet was sold. Noone who has had it for longer then a year has prospered. Some have ended up in prison, others have died in duels, been assassinated, died of alcoholism or have been reduced to pauperdom. Marriages and romances have been destroyed and businesses have gone to the wall. Anybody who drinks from the Goblet of Sin is in for a bad time of it and will be lucky to escape with only his or her reputation in tatters.
The Goblet has several uses. Muddy or dirty water becomes pure, and anything drunk from it tastes sweet and cool no matter how hot it is or what is being drunk. The most deadly poisons will cause no harm if drunk from this Goblet.
However, it has numerous ill effects due to the curse. Bad luck happens almost from the start. Swords become prone to splinter in combat and armour is more likely to rust or to break. Anything which requires luck is likely to go belly-up. More seriously, people lose their inhibitions. They insult those ranked above them, break the laws openly, get roaring drunk in taverns, and generally cause trouble for themselves and others.
Most seriously, they are unable to control their lust, which could lead to them at best flirting too much, at worst committing rape. The curse varies, it takes longer to act on someone with a high sense of right and wrong, but it will sooner or later affect everyone who does not sell or otherwise get rid of the Goblet of Sin quickly enough.
