Sundering of Zia

By:

An event that changed the Dragon Empire forever

There was once only one land, Zia. It was a prosperous time for both us of the Dragon Empire and those now living in Neozia. Yet, greed came upon those Western barbarians and all was lost. In the ultimate contest of might between practitioners of their alien 'magic' and ours of the Way of Fengshui, the land was ripped apart. The bulk of what was once Zia was split in half, forever separating us from them.

~ Recounting of the Sundering of Zia as told in the Dragon Empires

Aftermath of the Sundering:

The way of practising magic in the Dragon Empire is forever changed after the Sundering. The first change occurs in the form of a drastic re-interpretation of the way that the Five Elements are channeled into spells. Later, the Way of Fengshui itself becomes subsumed under the Bond.

Author's notes: The Sundering is basically the culminating event to a fantasy version of the Opium War. The link about the Way of Fengshui is broken at the moment (currently the sub is in Private-Hidden status). More subs about the evolution of  magic systems in the Dragon Empire are forthcoming.

In this culture it is not wise to talk too much good things about anything - especially children, lest some evil spirit steals it. So it is customary to say it is ugly and weak and will surely not survive. Also:
"The man who boasts of his young woman is a fool,
The man who boasts of his wares will get rich."
