The Mirr

The follow string of Mirror-folk evolutions, Mihradhz, Mihrral, and Mihradamagus, are collectively known as The Mirr. They are all curious and slightly annoying, each in their own way. They advance through their lives by pestering mortals who visit their plane, and because of the rarity of such an event, the Mihrral are not very common. And the Mihradamagus are almost mythical, even to mirror folk. They are typically unable to exist in an earth-like realm, however, the Mihradamagus are an exception.

The Mihradhz

Least of the Mirror-folk. A multi-faceted, quizzical being from the Land of Mirrors.

These Mirror-folk are small, about two or three feet in diameter, and generally of a rounded shape. It is said that their roundness and number of mirrored sides decreases with age and wisdom, until they have become a Mihrral (see below).

They are known for their general kindness and curiosity, and will often furiously bombard a non-mirrored newcomer with questions via a one-way telepathic link. Mihradhz love to hear details of worlds outside their own, especially about things like shadows and fire. If one is desperate enough, he may be able to get information out of a Mihradhz, but most likely at the cost of his sanity. Their telepathic "voices" are high-pitched and obnoxiously rapid.

The intelligence of a Mihradhz is questionable. They seem to be more interested in "hearing themselves talk" than anything else. This is probably because of their relationship with the more evolved Mirror-folk. Other Mirrored beings typically want nothing to do with the annoying Mihradhz, and in that vein, then typically let them do what they want in "The Halls" are of their mirrored land. Keeping them out of the more interesting and busy places in the Land of Mirrors.

Mihradhz are such simple and fragile beings that they can normally only exist inside of the mirror world. However, it is known that they can be transformed into potent warriors when dragged onto a material plane (See The Mirror Golem). This is a torturous process for the simple Mirror-being that rends it's mind into absolute uselessness except for following simple orders, creating a Golem-like being.

The Mihrral

A flat sheet of glass visible from only one direction, it turns and vanished, only to turn again; returning to view.

Once a Mihradhz has advanced enough in knowledge of the realm outside of the mirrors, to the point where it is a six-sided object, it will shatter and reform as a Mihrral. The next stage of Mirr life.

A Mihrral appears as a one-foot wide, by four feet tall, mirror that can only be viewed when it is "facing" you. It can not immediately change "face," but can sense things in any direction. When you see it, all you see is a floating reflection of what is in front of it. Meeting multiple Mihrral at once can be very disorientating, as they do not like uniformity and tend to stay at odd angles to each other.

The Mihrral establish mental links to learn more about the people they meet on the plane of mirrors. They speak aloud in soft voices, questioning motives, asking rhetorical questions to provoke thought, and generally making people feel uncomfortable in their own skin. Those with a strong willpower could potentially block mental access, in which case the Mihrral would completely ignore anything said by that person, short of physical contact.

Mihrral do not care about combat. They can simply turn flat, "back" facing out, against a wall. And you will never see them again. They will not interfere in any combats, but may ask questions of the participants, which may be distracting depending on the nature of the questions.

The Mihradamagus

A legendary creature, the majority of even the most knowledgeable sages know nothing of how these being are created or that they are actually the final evolution of the Mirr.

The final stage of the Mirr. A frightening being who is capable of powerful duplication magic and replicating any image in any mirror on a material plane. They are the true powers in the land of mirrors, and very few exist. They tend to be the complete opposite of their Mihradhz children. They give visions through reflective surfaces, to powerful mages, or far away locations where great magic is stored. They then lay their trap, a ritual to summon a special mirror golem. The golem will be said to be special in some way that the wizard cares greatly about, and thus the bait. They then disguise themselves as a Mihradhz, as they are infinitely mutable on the plane of mirrors, and lie in wait for their prey to attempt the special ritual. The ritual actually allows the Mihradamagus to tear the wizard's soul and likeness into the plane of mirrors. The Mihradamagus then absorbs the wizards power and likeness, and can enter the material plane and masquerade as him indefinitely. The wizard is cursed to repeat the Mirr cycle by becoming a many faceted Mihradhz.

The Mirrored Halls

The Mirr live in the Mirrored Halls, a realm that has existed since before the dawn of time, man, and your world. It is a endless mirrored corridor, where you may encounter many different things, or find yourself traveling through a mirror portal into a very different world. It is a junction between worlds, an endless about of worlds. And is often depicted as two intersecting rings. You never know what you might find in the Mirrored Halls.

Closing Thoughts

As a whole, there exists a chain of Mirror-Folk evolutions for nearly any, beautiful or ugly, universal truth you can think of. They reflect the ideas that you cannot hide from yourself, your own reality will catch up to you eventually.

The ultimate goal of a Mirr is the same as that of any wizard. Arcane power, and lots of it. All throughout its pitiful life, the Mirr seek knowledge and seek an outlet for that knowledge. Mirrors show us the truth, they cannot lie. And the truth these mirrors represent in that ultimate power ultimately corrupts.
