Full Item Description
A nondescript metal band worn by many monks and wise men. These bands are said to offer magical protection against poison and disease or otherwise keep the wearer healthy. The truth is much more practical.

Magic/Cursed Properties
Also known as a Lecher-bane Ring, it has the ability to numb certain points of the body (such as the hand or tongue) whenever the thought of a perverse action or utterance occurs in the wearer’s head. It has proven to be very effective.

When a young man reaches for a pretty girl’s bottom he will find his arm limp and unresponsive or when he tries to whistle at a passing maiden his lips will fail him.

It can only be removed by the Master that imbued it with his wisdom and over time the student will instinctively avoid such lecherous acts.

Background
Since its development many years ago, this ring has become a popular gift from master to student upon accepted apprenticeship. It can only be created by a wise man or master monk who is enlightened enough to pass on his wisdom.

There are a few times of note when this ring has not been used as intended. Two such occasions follow:

- Torture. By thinking of using certain parts of his body to perform perverse acts, much to his discomfort, a hero (cursed by the ring he accidentally found in an old monastery) managed to survive villainous torture long enough to be rescued.

- Punishment. A town ran by a monastic order has used these devices to keep rapists and other such perverted people from harming anyone after their jail time is up,

Neat and perfectly plausible among any monk orders. Of course if one of these finds their way onto a players char. they will likely consider it an insidious curse of the gods deigned to frustrate them to no avail. (Doubly so if they have a significant other or are frequent visitors to the brothels.)

It also can find good use for temporary wearing during minor surgery for those with a low pain tolerance.

Nice and perfectly plausible indeed! I would imagine that a monk can put it down when in perfect harmony - either during meditation or after achieving the status of a true master. Sadly, most don't find out quickly enough. ;)

For a third, the ring could be mischievously placed on someone shortly before their wedding night... it could be a fine joke, or actually ruin the marriage.

Proof that a short write up can sometimes be the best write up. This is a lovely class of items.

As a clerical enchantment, or "training tool" for a strict religion, this item has many uses. As a prank item, if you can get your hands on it, it is even more fun.

These items, or similar ones, might be the mark of a certain order or just priests in general. It depends on the culture/ country.

I would think it would be a mark of shame to wear such a ring - if you need such help to stay focused, you might not be cut out to be a monk :P

I think everyone has ignored the major line in the description: "it has the ability to numb certain points of the body (such as the hand or tongue) whenever the thought of a perverse action or utterance occurs in the wearer's head." The marriage use wouldn't really work, simply because I can't think of a single religion that would consider married-boinking to be perverse, and have their version of the ring affect it.

Something to think about: a ring of perversion for the darker religions. Helps send you down the wide and curvy faster than you otherwise would.

No, it probably wouldn't affect a married couple's sex life. However, it could prevent some of the stranger sex practices that may be frowned upon by a church, or prevent acts of infidelity.

Seems to be a gag item. In fact playing with this could be quite fun. I imagine a seasoned warrior played with Gaelic style rallying his genre-typical party (a rainbow tribe of pan-ethnic hero archetypes) before a battle.

What if you are a voyeur. When you try to set up your little sadistic dramas (i.e. Claude Rains' French Captain in 'Casablanca' or Aaron Eckhart's super salesman in 'In the Company of Men') do you go blind or retarded?

Why not make it more than sexual. You could have somebody's jaw go numb when they try to eat meat.

I think it could use more.

During big fights in the arena or gladitorial ring between two well known or important warriors. When one looses and dies, the crowd throws copper coins into the arena for the slain warrior to take with them on their passage of death. This is to make their passage and afterlife richer and less troubled. It is a sign of respect.
