30 Princesses

By:

A parcel of pretty princesses

1. Princess of Eagles
Proud and aloof, this princess has the makings of a great queen. Through her charisma, she has gathered a body of followers who are very loyal to her and will serve her even to death. It is said that it will take a great man to make a match for this peerless princess.

2. Princess of Cardinals
Always found wearing rubies and red silk, this princess has a temper of fire and a strong desire to be the center of attention. The servants bow deep to avoid her ire, and she expects instant servility from anyone lower ranking than herself.

3. Princess of Ptarmigans
Slightly dowdy, this plump princess favors white over any other color. She is bright and eager, always interested in the slightest bit of gossip. Many see her as an asset to the kingdom, to be sacrificed to a foreign prince to secure a bit of peace, good trade rights, or a stretch of contested land. The princess is painfully oblivious to her future of being married and shipped off to another royal court.

4. Princess of Pelicans
Intelligent and down to earth, this princess is hounded by the fact that many consider her to be homely and ungainly, her mouth to wide and looking more matronly than like a princess ought to. One day she will make an admirable and honored queen, but until then she faces forced politeness and snickering and rumor-mongering behind her back. She often find solace near water.

5. Princess of Parrots
This princess is known for the bright and garish dresses and hats that she loves to wear. She is also well known to repeat almost anytihng told to her, and as a result has a reputation for being a little lacking in wit. Despite her chirpy attitude she is often the butt of many mean spirited jokes.

6. Princess of Ravens
Bedecked in black, often deep in a thick book, this princess is dark and dangerously intelligent. In time, she will become a competent sorceress, and a cunning queen who could alternately lead her kingdom to greatness or into ruin. Compared to many princesses, she requires little maintenance and is prone to simply observe others around her.

7. Princess of Herons
This princess is known for being graceful and for being nearly as tall as a man. Her best attributes are her long legs which she has shown a bit of in public, creating a bit of scandal. She is also good spirited and can be mischievious and cunning when she finds something that she wants. She also has a keen eye for patterns and details that others often miss.

8. Princess of Starlings
This princess has a loud disposition that comes from her small stature. She is a good handspan shorter than other women her age and makes up for it in sheer volumn. Her dresses are large, her baggage is large, and her retinue of hangers on is equally large. When she crosses her arms and sticks out her jaw there is going to be a fight.

9. Princess of Roadrunners
Athletic and thin, this princess enjoys physical activities and sports with a zeal that is generally associated with commoners. Nobles are supposed to be calm and aloof, not dripping with sweat after climbing a mountain in a race. She enjoys a strong popularity with adventurers and explorers.

10. Princess of Doves
Often seen as being meek as milk, or mild as rosewater, this princess is an adamant opponent to warfare. She would rather see the kingdom prosper through trade and good management rather than by blood, swords, and conquest. She is favored by the clergy, but lacks the support of the glory hungry military.

11. Princess of Hawks
Fierce eyed and hungry, this princess dreams of wearing a sword and riding into battle as a sister to spears. not one for frilly dresses and courtly finery, she is more at home atop a horse, or riding incognito at tournament. A constant handful, many hope that marriage will cool her head and make her more manageable.

12. Princess of Bluejays
Looking dignified in sapphire and blue linen, this princess is calm and logical, fascinated with the minutae of leadership and has many friends and colleges among the merchant guilds. While intelligent and witty, she has a slight problem of focusing too much on a single facet of something, often overlooking the bigger picture.

13. Princess of Pheasants
Boisterous and loud, the princess isa fan of bards and minstrels. She knows many of the songs and can play some of them well. Her parents are often put off by her insistence on Bohemian dress in plain cotton, and wearing dyed bone beads in her hair. They hope that their very down to earth daughter will eventually quit playing in the commoner’s mud. She is popular among the masses.

14. Princess of Seagulls
Unlike the Osprey, this princess loves being close to the sea, though not on it. She favors lover’s points that overlook the ocean, and is none to shy about pining for her Prince Charming to come and sweep her off of her feet. Unfortunately for her, few princes are out on the bluffs, rather they ride in tournaments and tend to avoid the syrupy romantic ballads of the bards.

15. Princess of Myna Birds
Always dressed in colors of mourning, this princess is macabre and droll. Her favorite epics revolve around necromancers and trysts with the dead. She paints her face white and repeats the doom laden lyrics of poet’s bleak tales and suicide poems composed ages ago. Many hope that the princess will come out of her mourning for her departed (insert family member)

16. Princess of Crows
Fascinated by the arts of war and the brave and valiant soldiers who carry the sword and banner, this princess is commonly found near the proving grounds or the barracks. She knows much about romanticized warfare and tales of battle excite her greatly. A few of the older, wiser soldiers worry that when she assumes power that they could be looking at a series of battles and wars just for her morbid entertainment.

17. Princess of Storks
Percieved as gangly and sometimes lacking in grace, this princess dreams of nothing more than becoming a mother. Her Prince Charming will of course provide her with 8 or more children, but until then she must content herself with the children of others, watching them and cooing over them. She is also known for wearing nothing but white dresses.

18. Princess of Hummingbirds
Sometimes known as the Petite Princess, this lady is a bundle of energy wrapped in bright colored silks. She is an avid keeper of flowers, growing rare and exotic species in her private garden, as well as keeping a beehive for her own honey. She speaks seldomly, and when she does it is very short and soft spoken.

19. Princess of Sandpipers
Long walks along the beach are a daily part of this princess, who by luck lives near the ocean. Some whisper of a lost love on the sea, others a yearning to travel, others know that she has a weakness for fresh shellfish that can be found in the sands, as well as being away from the claustrophobic nightmare of the royal court and chambers.

20. Princess of Albatrosses
Also known as the lady of bad luck, this princess breaks mirrors, spills salt, crosses the paths of black cats and every other superstition known to man. She remains perfectly safe, but the bad luck falls around her like rain. Few are willing to be around her for too long, afraid that her bad luck will rub off on them.

21. Princess of Osprey
Born with salt water in her veins, this princess loves the sea, and wears the colors of slate gray and sea green when she can. She is more at home on the deck of a sailing ship than sitting on a plush sopha. This princess is well versed in sailing terms and matters of running and crewing a ship, and is alternately favored by the maritime communities.

22. Princess of Mockingbirds
Outwardly prim and proper, this princess has associates of the larcenous persuasion. Few would guess that the princess herself is a member of the thieves guild and sits at the right hand of the Guildmaster himself. Only the cold calculation of her grey eyes sets her apart from the appearance of the typical princess.

23. Princess of Ducks
Always talking, this princess is a lover of rivers and ponds. She can be found a the lakefront gazebo, or riding in a white gondola on the lake. her clothing ranges from common whites to a riot of colors suitable for the House of the Duck and any other house of such repute.

24. Princess of Kingfishers
Small and easily overlooked, this princess is cunning in the matters of spies and statecraft. Many a spy in the court has fallen to her without ever knowing that the second to the King’s spymaster is his own daughter.

25. Princess of Parrakeets
Also known as Princess of no consequence, this Princess is the third of three daughters and has been left far from the spotlight of the court. Some expect her to be bandied off to a knight for valiant deeds, sent packing to a convent, or even given some pointless appointment in a small and powerless kingdom.

26. Princess of Vultures
The dead hold a cold allure for this lady, and she is often found among such paraphenalia. Many think her to be sympathetic and sentimental, though in truth she is drawn to the suffering of others as it masques her own troubles. she has no qualms about touching a corpse, and may one day find a place as a closet necromancer for her morbidity.

27. Princess of Swans
Eldest daughter of a widowed King, this Princess is already a queen in everything but name. She grew up as a gangly and awkward youth and has since adapted to take up as many of her late mother’s duties. The populace expect a good marriage for her, not to be shipped off to some foreign court, married to some distant noble.

28. Princess of Sparrows
To many, a princess is a princess. This lady manages to hit all of the averages, being the typical fantasy princess/damsel in distress.

29. Princess of Peahens
A clotheshorse, this princess is never seen in anything not dripping with jewels or lace. Her dresses are the finest silk, her seamstress and tailors are the best in the kingdom. She is petulant, demanding, and is more upset by a mud stain on her dress than by the actions of a serial murderer.

30. Princess of Penguins
While most will scurry to the fireside, this princess dons a dark coat and steps out into the cold. Winter is her favored season and she loves games of snow and sculptures of ice. During the summer, many comment that she appears wilted.

An interesting collection, and idea. (However, note that neither the title nor the summary hint at what is inside.)

I'll marry the Princess of Herons, who wants the others? :)

How can this list be complete without the SHRIKE!!!! The little butcher bird. The world's only songbird and raptor! She'll sing you a song, then drop you on barbwire, and rip you to shreds as she feeds.

I used to go out with her.

The title and the summary are useless and detract from a very cool list of 30 princess personalities. The use of the birds as a handle for each princess's personality is quite unique. I like it. Fix the summary and a little bit of linking text and this will be a great one.

Fixed the title (again) and pampered up the summary. As for linking text, I'm not sure what you mean.

linking text.. text that links two sections. In this case a small blurb linking the alliteration in the summary section to the main submission, explaining about the Princesses.

Well...you've listed Cardinal twice and there is already a Princess of Cardinals, and a penhen is the female counterpart to a peacock so that one is also covered. Vulture is also on the list. the others would make some interesting princesses so get on it man!

Send your text for a bird princess to Scras, once he gets another 30 we can do another 30 princesses. And yes, I did send you my little birds before I posted this. (For the record, I have done Phoenix, Roc, Starbird, and Omenbird).

Wicked me ... I've been long using this without voting on it.  Obviously I love these evocative, non-cliched capsules.

'Tis a good one, though the 30 More Princesses are a tad better. I'd re-furbish for example the princess of Sparrows.

Most of these made me smile, and I can definitely see myself dipping into this list sometime in the future. The only two who I felt could us a little fleshing out, at least in appearance, were the parakeet and the sparrow. Average NPCs are perfectly acceptable, but it'd be nice to have a little more to use in a game.

Woodrats - In a fantasy realm of cooshee (elven dogs/cats) it is to be expected that there is some sort of elven vermin. These mercurial rats are lightning quick, and are capable of hiding in plain sight. Other than this, they have no special ability.
