Forgotten Treasures
By: Strolen

A long forgotten and abandoned mine has been recently rediscovered by a local village.

A long forgotten and abandoned mine has been recently rediscovered by a local village. Only problem is that they were very loose lipped about it and it was quickly taken over by a local band of ruffians. They quickly found that it was already inhabited by other dangerous creatures that have been using it as their lair. The town could ask for assistance, or the adventurers could hear of it themselves. Either way they first have to find the place, defeat the bandits that are camped outside it, and defeat the creatures that now inhabit it.

How about a little twist:
The adventurers are hired by the 'rightful owner'(the ruffians leader) to clear that mine for a meager reward and all riches they find. Let them know (later) what they have done to this poor village. Maybe the REAL owner wants to claim his legacy back. Play with it.

Hmm yes, forgotten mine. Well, is it just there's a shortage of holes in the ground that has everyone worked up over it or could this be like the Dutchman's mine? A mine that was found by one guy in some naturally hidden backwater place where everyone overlooks, a motherload vien of precious metal, more than anyone could work out in a life time. But the Dutchman had distrust instilled in him so much, he never told anyone where it was.

Maybe some of the decendants of the miner who created the abandoned mine would like to lay claim to their inheiritance now that it's been found. Of course they could offer the players ridiculous sums of money that is in the mine they will be helping to clear out. And also, the mine in question could be an entirely different mine altogether, but how will anyone know that for a fact untill iafter/i the mine is empty?

*cough* cliche unoriginal filler plot which I (and a 1000 other people) probably came up with before there was a Baldur's Gate *cough*

No apologies for this one, but it was one of the original submissions for strolen.com before it became a worldwide sensation ;) Geez, had to put something up didn't I? What is a idea site without ideas?

This is a funny blast from the past. Anyone lloking at this and thathasbeen here for any length of time can definately see the difference in quality that the site has brought. From this to say Regression by Iain... classic stuff.

Remember, everything begins somewhere and nothing is original.

The beauty, depth, surprise twist ending. It has none of it. :)

A blast from the distant past...

Of course, Strolen didn't mention that the ruffians are actually the descendants of the mine's original owner, come to protect their claim...

The villagers actually intended to remake the mine into a temple of evil, dedicated to their secret cult; they are secretly worshippers of Mrrrrorw, Demon Lord of Rabid Housecats...

The dangerous beasts dwelling within the mine are actually Awfully Good "Wink Dogs", that strive to oppose evil even as they make numerous lascivious double-entendres...

And it's not actually a true mine at all, but a natural cavern, filled with valuable crystalline gems sacred to the local dwarves, who originally drove off the ruffians' ancestors to keep them from mining it.

(Let the players get a glance at this, then run the scenario 'stock' and watch them second-guess themselves into complete confusion as they wait for 'the other shoe to drop'!)

That is pretty much what I meant when I wrote this. Thanks for rewording it a bit for me.

I spent a lot of time trying to get the nuances just write so the flow of the plot hit a crescendo at just the perfect moment. I would have to say that this is my magnum opus and there is really nothing else I can do to improve on it.

Wow a piece of ancient history, the first ever sub for Strolen's!

It's fascinating to compare the beginning works to the later stuff, show's how much everything's grown over the years.

The first sub on a great site... It deserves some credit just for that.
