On moonless nights when ghouls run wild
and ghosties dance and scream and gloat
don’t fret, don’t cry, don’t fear, dear child-
Those ghoulies fear John Bloodycoat
A beast made of writing; a strange, sad, and beautiful being that haunts the libraries and universities of the Sacred World
Better stay away from him, he’ll rip your lungs out…
His hair was perfect…
I’d like to meet his tailor…
AAAA-ROOOOOOOOOO!
The brilliant Doctor Ghanek brought peace, prosperity and relief from starvation and disease to her people. But to what lengths was she willing to go for it?
“He was a Savior.”
“No, he was a Madman.
“A Saint.”
“A Monster.”
“A Criminal.”
Perhaps they lack the subtlety of other groups, but the Candles of God have no desire to be subtle. Perhaps they do not keep their secrets very well, but the Candles of God want their voices to be heard. Perhaps they are careless about who they kill, but there shall be no innocent bystanders when the fires of hell consume the unrighteous.
In the Middle Ages, and even up to the early twentieth century, most of Europe's executioners were related: the Sansons and Deiblers in France, the Pierrepoints in England, etc. The reason for this was that, it generally not being socially acceptable to, well, kill people, executioners and their children could, generally, only marry other executioners or their children. The parallels with massively inbred, Hapsburg-style dynasties are obvious- imagine a rather clever but politically inept satirist noting this, and being sentenced by the latter to a meeting with the former; even worse, imagine a dynasty of deranged and deformed executioners- think Texas Chaisaw Massacre with government funding.
