There is no such thing as "hyperspace". What there is for space travel is the Gate drive, a poorly-understood Human technology that has been adopted by other races to fold space creating a miniature wormhole. The Gate drive is inefficient and takes huge amounts of power to function, thus, extremely long distance travel, such as going from the Galactic core to the Galactic Rim, or even half that distance, is impossible except for ships that are beyond current capabilities.
There are, however, the Kaiser gates, Human relics that function like incredibly powerful self-contained Gate drives.
There could be any number of space systems in Deadspace. It's an entire galaxy, after all.
