Greetings from Scotland!
« on: February 02, 2014, 09:02:15 AM »
My name is Pete, as indicated by my unimaginative username. I've been gaming off and on for 7 years now, when my friends first introduced me to AD&D 2nd Ed. during my second year at uni. Since then, I've also dabbled in Star Wars D20, Paranoia, Call of Cthulhu and most recently a free fantasy system called Warrior, Rogue & Mage. I enjoy GMing and stumbled across this site while looking for some ingenious traps for my current WR&M game.

I look forward to becoming an active member in the community and can't wait to start sharing ideas.

Awesome...and welcome.

Always good to see the word Cthulhu anywhere as well. Glad you joined and we can't wait to hear some of your ideas!

How close are you to Loch Ness? I need some photos of Nessie and am trying to find somebody to take pictures!

Wooo new member! Welcome PeteBain! No Priests in Warrior, Rogue, and Mage?

Ah, how I have come to love that sense of accomplishment and victory that I get when I pull the wool over the eyes of a clever player character. What DM Triumphs have you had?

Some of mine:
1. Finally killing an incredibly powerful, lucky, annoying player's character.
2. Finally achieving a TPK (Total Party Kill)
3. Finally achieving a TPK using only traps
4. Finally working out how to make it so that d**n wizard doesn't steal the spotlight all the d**n time.

Welcome.

If you really are in Scotland, prove it by sending me some of your local booze, the sort of stuff that only gets sold to the locals.

Thanks to all for the warm welcomes.

Sorry, Strolen, I live fairly close to the border with England. It would take me the better part of a day to reach Loch Ness and even then, Nessie is notoriously difficult to photograph.

And as far as Warrior, Rogue & Mage goes, Murometz, there is ample scope for Priests. The title represents the core stats of every character; Warrior replaces STR and CON, Rogue replaces DEX and CHA, and Mage replaces INT and WIS. It's a ridiculously simple system geared for roleplaying, rather than roll playing. The combat system could do with some tweaking, but otherwise I'd highly recommend it.

And Scrasamax? I'm sure I wouldn't know what you're talking about. (We don't sell it, it's all personal consumption.)

Oh no, that stuff is all legit. It's either above board and available to all, or off the record and only for parties.

Let me make an analogy (and keep in mind that this is all in jest)

The McIlhenny company manufactures tobasco sauce, and this sauce is generally available around the world.

But they also make other things, other types of sauces that are still available for purchase, but are not majorly exported, such as taking the salt used to seal/cure the pepper pulp barrels and selling it at seasoning salt, and limited run things like spicy worcestershire sauce, spicy soy sauce, and such. These things are all legit for sale, but if you want these, you either have to go the factory store, or you have to live in southern Louisiana where the factory is located.

:( I did not know this. And I wish I still didn't. So... far... away....

By the way, how does Warrior, Rogue & Mage work for you? It was one of several lite systems I looked at before settling on something else, but it seemed like it had potential.

It's not a bad system, especially with all the supplements that give alternatives for combat and magic. It certainly requires a bit of work, though, if you intend on picking and choosing the rules to create a balanced system. Out of curiosity, what system did you wind up going with?

And Gossamer? Although I already have a beard, I've never been one for ale, so I may give the Dwarves Guild a miss for now. :P

I do, however, quite like polishing ideas and making connections where others don't. Perhaps the Weavers is the place for me?

I've been using Mini Six for a few years now. It's a stripped down version of D6 that is easy to pick up, easy for newbies to catch on to, fast to play, and simple to tweak. I tend to favor storytelling and role-playing over crunchy rules and this works well for that style of play.

Lately, though, I've been looking into Fate (specifically FAE, the lighter version.) I may just end up merging some of its elements back into Mini Six.
