--Thorgir's brief indecision cost him, as he bellowed the challenge. The challenge was immediately taken up, as the Qullan who hurt (the now running) Rasmus, turned with panther speed and swung wildly at Thorgir, connecting, across shoulder and chest with his preternaturally sharpened blade. The blade sunk deep, though Thorgir showed as little emotion now as the Qullan had. Blood spurted from the barbarian, but did little to stop him. Thorgir raised his axe...(ooc: you took 10 dam... attack away!)

--Meanwhile, the grin quickly left Melior's face. The Qullan that he had just magic missiled, struck back at the elven wizard and connected, plunging his blade into Melior's shoulder blade. The sword went through Melior's flesh as if it was butter, and the elf grunted, stumbling back, as the Qullan ripped his blade free. (ooc: Melior takes 8 points of whopping damage and still needs to save vs confusion. Good luck, Melior!)

(ooc: BUT WAIT!! I forgot about your cloak of displacement!!!!!! The Qullan misses Melior, the plunging blade into your shoulder merely an illusion, since you are really a few feet to the left of the attack! Sooo, just save vs confusion, sorry, no damage!)

--Rasmus stopped running and screaming suddenly, and turned to face the fray once more. Why had he run like a coward? He had no idea, but he now turned back to attack! Khaum be good! He charged back into the fray, looking for a Qullan to strike down with his mace.

(ooc: Lumori, Somnak, and the 3rd Qullan are in a temporary time fugit, until CM and SE get back to post :))

The wild woman, who everyone had forgotten, suddenly let out a piercing shriek, as she surveyed the battle.

(ooc: Thorgir gets an attack (and another save). Melior gets an attack--if his save goes well--Rasmus back next round. Qullan initiative for NEXT round: 5)

Thorgir smashed his new foe with his axe, though he too fell under the effects of the magic and stood there drooling.

Brin

Having reached the ledge, Brin spat some dust from her mouth and cursed the island anew.

Her animated hand companion was busy stretching its fingers, and rubbing the back of its palm against a rock.

Hauling the last of her equipment up, she scanned the ledge, and for a brief moment admired the jungle vista spread out below her. She was only about fifty feet above the jungle floor now, but it was high enough to get a panoramic view.

Then she looked up. Another two hundred feet at least to the top of the Tepui…

More cursing.

Brin eyed the cave opening again…a feint noise emanated from inside. At first it sounded like a drafty breeze, but then she realized it sounded more like deep, rhythmic breathing…

The animated hand, which once belonged to master-thief, Ghulkar the Vulture, extended its middle finger at the cave entrance.

... Of course. Brin cursed once more beneath her breath, and quietly flattened herself against the wall of the cave entrance, the better to keep whatever it was from forcing her to fall. A wicked smile came to her lips, the sweat trickling down to them, then, as she selected a prayer to her lord, and readied it upon her lips, waiting for the thing to show itself.

Lowering his mace, Rasmus called upon the force of Khaum to smite the Qullan from afar.

"Khaum take you!" he called out, sending a hammer-shaped force at his foe. The Qullan dodged out of the way.

It was asleep! The realization shot through Brin like a lightning bolt, as she listened to the breathing. Quietly, quietly she called the thief's hand back to her, sending it off to tie the rope once more, watching the cave longer. The chance of her making it out without waking the thing up was low, she knew. But if she could slip past, all the better. If not... Well, she would just have to have a word of choice with it.

Confusion Roll: 15. I shall assume that I'm confused, as low rolls seem better (I'll change this of O'm wrong), so my type of confusion shall be: 4.

Edit: Apparently, I saved. Thus, Melior is back to being awesome.

Melior smiled as the qullan missed him, and laughed. Oh, how stupid the beast was. Still, they were begining to peeve Melior. Those two magic missiles should have at least fazed the brute. Well, time to resort to an age-old saying. When in doubt, set something on fire.

He quickly intoned the flaming sphere spells, and mentally directed it to come into being in the Qullan nearest himself's hair, and mentally directed the sphere to roll over the savage's body. Even the loincloth.

4 damage for burns!

Somnak, unintimidated by the approaching foe, hammered on his instrument with a maniacal fervor, the rhythm of the beats accompanying his gutteral chants. The Demon's Dance had him, and there was no way he was going to let it go so soon.

Even in his possessed state, however, Somnak had not lost his presence of mind; he knew he would have to do more than drum before long. Also, he hadn't forgotten that invisible beast - Somnak's eyes glanced over to the river to see if he could spot the other foe.

The Qullan stalked toward the drummer as combat raged among the others. An arm fell to the ground, its owner quickly following. The Qullan kept coming. Spells flew, minds were twisted, and the Qullan kept coming. Like a demon of ages past, Lumori dropped onto the ground behind the painted giant. His descent was flawless, alighting on the ground without any sound to give away his presence to the mark. Viper-quick the blades struck.

Flash.

Hamstrings cut. Victim falls to knees.

Flash.

Trapezius penetrated, unable to maintain grip on weapons.

Flash.

Throat opened, blood sprays.

Flash.

Base of skull penetrated.

Bloodstains covered Lumori's face in whorls of primal fury. Mystic tendrils of confusion reach out to ensnare his mind, but slid off its surface with no effect whatsoever. He kicked the eviscerated corpse away, looking for his next target.

More Blood

Thorgir stood motionless, confused. Yet his eyes could still make out the battle around him. For a moment anyway…

The deranged Qullan now sunk his razor-blade directly into Thorgir’s gut, sinking the blade deep, then twisting it and grinning with pleasure; his eyes rolled back in his head like a shark at the point of attack. The Qullan’s body paint shimmered in the heat.

(ooc: Qullan hit Thorgir 18 {+3 for sword and +4 for Thorgir being prone, -1 due to drumbeat}. 9 pts of damage to Thorgir.)

Melior’s face lit up with joy as he watched the Qullan burn. The creature swung its arm to and fro as if fighting back bees. He was hurt no doubt by the fire and the earlier arcane bolts, yet he managed to swing once more at Melior with his sword arm.

(Qullan misses with a 5 roll. Sigh. Your move Melior. No need to save vs confusion yet.)

Somnak drummed. He dared not stop now nor could he if he wanted lost in his Demon Dance and affecting the tide of combat. Well, not completely lost. Noticing that Lumori was descending spider-style from the canopy and was about to stick the Qullan nearing him, Somnak turned toward the river and saw him, the other Qullan. The flour was gone now and he was dripping wet. The possessed-looking humanoid  was running directly at Somnak now, thirty feet and closing, sword drawn. Twenty feet…

(Initiative roll since Somnak avoided surprise (!))

Rasmus aimed his spirit-hammer at the back of the Qullan who was gutting Thorgir, and waiting for him to die.

(Hit rolled 16 +1 drumbeat. 5 damage)

Having hit, Rasmus erupted with a prayer to Khaum, screaming it at the top of his lungs, then managing to glance over at the jungle-woman to see if she might have been as impressed with him as he was. (ooc: no save vs confusion necessary)

Lumori did not pause to revel in his kill. Instead he looked for new knife targets. Glancing around quickly, it seemed he had a few options...

Thorgir comes to. With a sword inside him.

(ooc: Qullan initiative roll 8, party initiative roll--i took the liberty---4. You ALL attack/act.)

Somnak stops drumming. Drum effects last for 1 round + 1d4 (rolled a 1) (Maximum rounds are equal to amount of rounds played, so 2 anyway).

Drum effects last 2 rounds

Somnak spotted the water-drenched Qullan charging. It was time to stop drumming. With a final jump he planted his feet firmly in the ground and let his drum fall to the side of his hip. In the same movement he unslung his shortbow and drew back an arrow. A grunt escaped his lips as he let the arrow fly at the creature which was quickly closing in on him.

(15:38:56) Minion: Shadoweagle rolls 1d20 and gets 9 (Unmodded. not sure of my bonuses etc.) +1 to Somnak's attack and -1 to Qullan's Defense from residual drum effect. Not a clue if it hit! :D
If it hit, damage roll: (15:46:31) Minion: Shadoweagle rolls 1d6 and gets 2.

This thrice-d***ed brute was still up? Melior sighed. Sometimes in life, burning stuff just doesn't solve a problem completely. He unsheathed his dagger, and was about to charge the Qullan when he realized the stupidity of such a move- the brute might in fact cause him to be confused!

Instead, Melior retreated half a step and threw his dagger directly at the creature's heart. And with a satisfying thunk, it sunk into the beast's chest

Rolled 17, +1 from drums, +1 from Dex, =19, assuming thats a hit, and also assuming a 1d4 for damage, meaning that I dealt...1.

Melior tossed his dagger and somehow, miraculously, it sank into the Qullan's painted chest. The creature looked down disbelievingly at the knife sticking out, then glared at Melior and advanced. A second later he collapsed to the ground, on his face. The knife had done him in. (ooc: you did 13 pt of dam against this one already, he had 1 left believe it or not  :Thud:)

Thorgir came to and immediately felt more pain, as the Qullan ripped its blade free from Thorgir's torso, causing a waterfall of blood to erupt out of the barbarian, spraying everything nearby. The Qullan grinned and prepared to stick Thorgir again. (ooc: (18:46:16) Minion: Murometz rolls 1d10 and gets 3.(18:46:34) Minion: Murometz rolls 1d20 and gets 20. (18:46:39) Murometz: d**n (18:48:29) Minion: Murometz rolls 2d4 and gets 2,4. Thorgir takes another 11 pts of damage!)

Somnak shot quickly but this time the fates weren't guiding the shaft. The arrow sailed past the hard-charging beast, and into the river. The emboldened Qullan roared then, there was no other way to describe the awful sound which came from his mouth, and leapt high into the air, all eight feet of him, in order to come down blade first on the half-orc.(ooc: Minion: Murometz rolls 1d20 and gets 6.). But the half-orc was no effete elven wizard or half-cracked cleric. Somnak's reflexes were of finer stock that that. Just as the Qullan was about to eviscerate him Somnak lunged to the side rolling, and was on his feet again in moments.

Lumori watched this happen, and was already moving toward the Qullan that had just missed Somnak. (ooc: Lumori's attack).

Rasmus was emboldened. His last attack struck home. Once more, the cleric of Khaum guided his spirit hammer into the back of the Qullan that was currently skewering Thorgir, and once more he hit! (ooc: Minion: Murometz rolls 1d20 and gets 15. +1 for drumming. 4 Damage.)

Thorgir felt his consciousness slipping away, but lashed out once more, perhaps finally, against his enemy.  His strike was successful, though weak...

(20:24:53) Minion: valadaar rolls 1d20 and gets 12.  Not spectacular, but that will do.
(20:25:39) Minion: valadaar rolls 1d8 and gets 1. Rats. Still 4 hp damage given his strength.

Either the Qullan was overconfident, or Rasmus's last strike took its toll, or both. For as he swung once more to end Thorgir's life, the Qullan somehow missed the staggering barbarian. Thorgir side-stepped the fearsome blade at the last possible second (ooc: Minion: Murometz rolls 1d20 and gets 7.), and with some difficulty, raised his axe perhaps for the last time, as blood pumped from his veins, feeding the jungle...

The spell completed, Rasmus watched his spiritual hammer fade away.

Without a thought, he rushed around the Qullan and came up behind Thorgir just as the creature missed him again. Reaching out, he called upon the mercy of Khaum to heal the failing warrior. Light sprung from his hands and some of the blood stopped flowing from the barbarian's wounds. (16:54:53) Minion: MysticMoon rolls 1d8 and gets 8

Confusion took over and the cleric once more rushed away, screams ripped from his throat. (17:03:42) Minion: MysticMoon rolls 1d20 and gets 11. (17:03:55) Minion: MysticMoon rolls 1d6 and gets 5.

Lunging at his opponent - Thorgir launched a desperate, obvious attack at the creature - he dodged it easily and prepared to strike. Unfortunately for him he was not watching Thorgir's other hand, and the metal-edged shield struck the Qullan in the face.  Teeth flew and the Qullan fell unconscious.

Staggering and coughing blood, Thorgir placed one heavy booted foot on the Quallan's head and pushed until he heard bones break.

Numbers - first attack, -3 for two weapon (-4, modified upward to -3 for dex), +2 for strength. Roll 4 so no dice)
16 die roll, (-1 for 2-weapon, -1 for non proficency (small shield), +2 for strength, thaco 18 = 13 for AC 5, so total 14 +1 (drums)) Long story hit.

Melior casually approached the beast he had brought down single-handedly and plucked his dagger out of the corpse. He regarded it for a moment, and then turned to see how his companions fared.

As he had been mostly focused on this solitary Qullan, it came as somewhat of a surprise that his companions weren't doing as well as he, especially that... What was his name? Thorlid? Thorgul?  It was definately some kind of Thor name. It seemed they needed his help, primitive fools that they were.

The elf decided that the barbarian was the one most needy for arcane assistance. As such, it was to the Qullan stabbing him that the jets of flame from Melior's Burning Hands spell went to burn.

Melior approaches near enough to the Qullan so that trees don't block the flames, but far enough that confusion isn't a issue. Also, the Burning Hands does 3 damage. I try not to hit my buddies with it. Can I fire it off vertically so that Thorgir doesn't have burns as well as missing internal organs?

Eyes filled with tempestuous rage locked onto the river-Qullan and began deciding the best way to paint the forest with its entrails. Lumori ran forward as the painted giant jumped, attempting to time his vicious assault to the moment when the giant landed.

Unfortunately, the fates decided otherwise, and the creature was able to avoid the stabbing jabs and cutting blows from the murderous thief. Mystic tendrils again reached out to his mind, only to be blunted and cast aside. Too fast was the tempest, too loud the roar of fury. He pressed his assault further.

Somnak raised himself from the ground and slung his bow on his back. From his right hip he grabbed his axe and raised it ready to block - there was no need, however; Lumori had distracted the encroaching Qullan and though he failed to land a hit, had distracted the creature long enough for Somnak to ready himself. And the Half Orc had not forgotten the ruined corpse that Lumori had made his plaything.
"Mo-ar Tokh Lumori. Your blades dance like Devils-fire!" Somnak yelled over the battle; back in his tribe, an orcs worth was his battle prowess; Lumori had proven himself to Somnak this day. No more was he the coward. That title fell now onto Melior, who hid behind his sorcery too terrified to meet his foe blade to blade!

Somnak swung his axe viciously with both hands - the weapon glided straight past the Qullan's defenses and landed with a sickening *squnch* into it's belly. Almost casually, the Half-Orc placed a boot on the Qullan's side and used it to pull away the axe as though he were tugging it free from a pinching tree trunk. As the axe head came free, so too, did chunks of gore and flesh.
attack: 15. Damage: 9. Also, saved against confusion.

Brin

Brin climbed, grunting quietly as she rose above the Cave of Snores. Ghulkar was waiting impatiently by yet another cave mouth, another sixty or so feet above her.

She paused briefly to watch, as an arrow of birds flew by, not far from her, feathers of every color of the rainbow.

Suddenly...

“Mree'kem? Hello? Preveyt? Jajasho? Yetl? Ba’zak?”

She looked down involuntarily and saw an old, naked, bronze-skinned bearded man waving to her from the cave opening she had just passed.

He spoke again, and smiled, showing few teeth. It seemed he was trying a variety of languages as he prattled, before finally deciding on the Common trade-tongue of the Green Sea.

“Yes? Hello! Oh yes! Who are you? Please do not go! I  only was how you say---mastur-bating? No, no--- medi-tating. Yes! Quite so! Hello! You are magnificent-looking creature!”

The Qullan had a choice, as it bled from a huge hole in its belly, which foe to attack. It chose of course the one that had wounded it. The beast-sorcerer, he who had used his magic white powder on him earlier. The Qullan bared his black-stained teeth and took a vicious swing at Somnak, slicing the half-orc with a long, deep, red line across the chest, from shoulder-to-shoulder. (ooc: (22:52:13) Minion: Murometz rolls 1d20 and gets 20. Murometz: BAM!!!! Minion: Murometz rolls 2d4 and gets 1,3. Murometz: 4+3+2-1=8 Damage to Somnak. Initiative for Somnak and Lumori. Somnak snarled with fury, spittle spraying over the Qullan. Sliding around the creature, he swung his axe once more, The Axe sunk firmly in between it's shoulder blades and Somnak stepped back, letting the weapon remain in the flesh.

init: 5 attack: 15. Damage irrelevant; see next post.
