I wanted to start a topic to see what other GMs do to or for their players. Some GMs are cruel, killing off characters right and left, and some (hopefully most) go out of their way to make the game fun, and personally directed at the characters and their role within the game world.
I like to think of myself in the later category. I try to customize the game enough to make my players feel that they are the most important thing within the game world for good or ill. In reality they are.
Here's my contribution to start this out. This can either be considered cruel, or funny, depending on how you take it, but the result was a 10-min laughter break from game, so from my point of view, it worked perfectly.Back story
: The lead fighter in my last campaign was a pretty standard grunt fighter. He could have almost been a paladin, but for his choice at character creation. He also, by the players own insistence, was unable to read. This was being taken care of as time went on by having the party druid teach him, which is why this went over so well. (on a side note, I always give PCs the ability to read and write common by default without spending points on it
