Asha looked at her doubtfully for a full couple seconds, then shrugged as she realized it wasn't the craziest thing she'd heard over the past couple months, "Could be jump jets or something to let it boost over high walls and breach upper stories of buildings?" She suggested  peering closer, another thought occurring to her, "We should check out that explosion and fire, it could be another of these things got taken down near the perimeter, or it left some kind of limpet mine in the mans home or remains as a trap?"

She stepped closer and held her light steady, making it easier for Caregie to work on her dissection and analysis of the thing, and to be on hand in case it had any surprises still in store for them.

Carnegie ripped up some grass and used it to clean her hands and knife, then she got up and spoke. "Uhm afore we do dat though, iffin dat head is transmittin sum kajnd a trackin signal what with de blinkin lights n'd all, we oughta crush it first and foremost so's we ain't gettin anymore a those  cumin 'ere...Uhm, Marcus kin yeu...pick up a big rock n'd smash it or sumthin? Ah doubt we woudd be able ta do much wit it anyways. Ah'll go help de others put out the fires now." She said looking to see if anyone else would volunteer, in either case they probably shouldn't be straying too far away from eachother but she couldn't just stand by idle while the village burned down.

"Hold on a sec, we could use it as bait as well, whoever built this thing and sent it against the community might wish to retrieve its remains, so placing it somewhere in the forest and setting up an ambush for its owner might tell us more about why they unleashed it on out community, and perhaps stop them from sending more." She paused briefly at realizing she had referred to the town as "our community" a bit surprised at herself she already thought of herself as one of them, but decided not to make an issue of her phrasing if no one else did.

Carny stared at the woman in disbelief.
"...N-now hold on 'ere, Ah... Ah dunno how common those thangs are over in Stonehammer, but de tajm it took ta bring it down... Ah... coudd 'ave taken down three yotes alone, inna tajm it took all'a us ta tajk down one a those! Whoever or whatever it may be dat sent dat thang, iffin dey's got more a them... All we's got are dese ol guns. Ah hardly reckon we'd stand a chance against anyone wielding such... uh... resources. Ta their disposal..."

"Dis thang..." She said and emphasized it with a kick to the cadaver. "Dis is advanced stuff, Ah've... never seen anythang lajk it. Ah reckon we'd be much better off hidin fra whatever sent it." Not to mention it might be you their looking for, she thought to herself. She crossed her arms and hugged herself for support, this was uncomfortable, she wasn't used to airing her opinions so openly, but she was a hunter, not a... clanker-hunter. Her eyes darted nervously between her companions, she wondered what the decision would be.

I would just like to point out though, that I as a player am not opposed to le ambush.

Asha nodded slowly, reaching out to put a reassuring arm on Caregie's shoulder, "You;re right in they probably only have one of them, which means if they retrieve its remains personally they may be far less equipped and able to be dealt with easily by surprise, besides the advantage we have with an ambush is we can size up the opposition, see if it's anything we can't handle, if it prove too difficult we can just remain still and let them go from whence they came, then maybe track them back to their home and go from there."

She looked over at the mayor and nodded, "It's your call of course sir, but I would suggest we use the opportunity to find out as much as we can about who sent this thing and why, take the offensive before we find ourselves preyed upon again in the future." She paused for breath and gave them a sly smile, "Besides in an ambush we can rig up a dead fall or pit trap that'll take one of these out of commission with less risk to ourselves."

"I'm with Asha," Marcus said bluntly. "Hiding ain't an option- if they got the technology to make a thing like that, they probably got something that'll let 'em know that their beastie ain't in fightin' shape any more. They- if there is a they, could be a beastie left over from history- they know we killed it, and if they're set on coming, by the looks of this puppy's claws," here he paused, and gave the headless body a light kick, "they'll come armed. We might as well be prepared."

He sighed for a moment, and then eyed the burning wreckage of Qwell's home. It had been quite an explosion, he had not expected that.

"Someone tell me if I'm crushing its head quick, else I'm goin' to see if I can help with firefightin'."

"Might want to put your ambush near that old school - there's no-one's home anywhere near there."

He looked at Marcus, his expression somewhat obscured by the poor light.

"You've put me in a hard place, Marcus. It's too late in the night to address this properly, but there will certainly need to be accounting for this ... mess. Might be best if you kept a low profile for a bit."

Marcus looked at the mayor for a moment, eyeing his hidden face.

"Fine," he said. "I shall be at that school, with that head, and I shall slaughter any who come to find it."

He turned, the burning vans and the other house that had recieved the gift of fire providing a harsh light that made his stony face seem harder, and strode into the darkness and the woods.

"If you care to join me, join me," he said without turning, without slowing his gait, his feet soon carrying him from the domesticated packed dirt of the town to the wild and loose earth of the forest.

Why did he care so much for the fate of Kenebac? The town had brought him nothing but pain and sorrow and hardship. His only friend in the world, Luc, was nowhere to be seen, there was next to nothing keeping him here.

So why did he feel the need to stay?

Asha looked over at the mayor for direction, waiting for Marcus to get out ear shot before speaking quietly.

I've seen people like him back in Stonehammer, when they lack a clear direction to go, they usually find their way into trouble instead, it's not usually intentional, but they don't always make the smartest choices when left to their own devices if you take my meaning." She shrugged and eyed his retreating form, unsure whether to thank him for his intervention, or berate him for neaqrly getting himself shot by leaping into her line of fire.

"It might be better for everyone if a few of us keep an eye on him, and make sure he doesn't get into any more trouble, especially with how unsettled everyone is right now," She suggested to the mayor with a polite smile, "I know I'm new here, but your village has shown me kindness, and I would like to repay that in part if you're willing to let me."

Assuming you trust me, and don't blame me for the fire as well given it was my suggestion to torch the place. Then again you don't seem like the summary execution style of barons we used to get passing through Stonehammer, I wonder if that's the case or if you're just less vocal then they would be under similar circumstances?

The world made no sense anymore. What was the mayor accusing Marcus of? Or rather, what had he done now. She watched his retreating form and looked back at what to her was a blazing inferno. How could she leave when her home was threatening to go aflame, she had wanted to help out the bucket chains from the start but then the clanker came and now... There was no stopping Marcus, that she knew, not when he was like this, and she couldn't just let her small group wander out without support, but to leave at a time like this. The mayor had said to set the ambush that was true, but he hadn't said right this instant!

She bit her lip. Gosh darnit, she was a hunter not some kind of commando. What was she becoming, where was her place in the world. She didn't know. She stood dumbstruck and watched the bucket chains form, the scattered orange flames like beacons in the night, torn between logic and emotion. At least it looked like they would have it under control, and auntie Tilly's house was in no immidiate danger. She turned to watch Asha discoursing with the mayor. Where they coming or not? She took a few hesitant steps after Marcus, looking behind her. A worshipping Elvis pacing around her legs.
